I like nutnut`s take on not-legalizing pot though. She has some really good points.

armymom (929.8 days ago)
I`m neutral on the subject. I don`t care really cause I don`t smoke.... anything.

hillaryandmikesbaby (929.8 days ago)
I`m for it.

ArcticArlz (929.8 days ago)
good for the economy, money in to the state and crime rate lower. I`m all for it (I`m Canadian - and jealous) :D

jessberr31 (929.9 days ago)
Legalize it! Woo Hoo! LOL! =P

sadielady (929.9 days ago)
Idont smoke pot either. but I dont think legalizing it would be a bad thing. it would bring down the crime rate. and make the state money... and cigarette smoke is much worse than marijuana btw

california-mom (929.9 days ago)
Originally I was against legalizing it. Now I go back and forth...I think theres a HUGE difference between lazy people who smoke their brains out and people who are productive citizens and smoke a little pot every so often. There are just so many things to consider...

5against1 (929.9 days ago)
in alll the other countries where it is legal, how has it affected crime, deaths, etc??... i think it should be legalized. weed is nowhere as harmful as cigarettes or alcohol, but they r legal. it just needs to be regulated. I`m 1 of those people that think weed is no big deal. Almost everyone I know smokes weed. They are all hard working middle/upper middle class people who work hard and just want to relax after work with a joint...My son is 15 now. In 3 yrs, when he is considered an adult, it wouldnt bother me 1 bit if he was smoking it RESPONSIBLY.

TwinklinBrwnEyes (929.9 days ago)
IMO smoke is smoke. Lets just keep on stinkin` up the air we breath..no biggy!!

awaitingmyangel10 (929.9 days ago)
breathing in weed is a lot better than cigarette smoke.. there is way more harmful things in cigarettes...the only reason it hasnt been legal is because they cant tax it.. it grows just like tobacco does..

sheework (929.9 days ago)
I think for a state that is in so much debt why not. I mean they need to be doing all they can to fix that place. Sending out IOU for taxes, wanting to not buy texts books. I mean this is the first okay idea they have come up with. I do think it should be like they do with alcohol, only used in bars ect. Not to where they can walk down the street getting stoned.

Love.Nora (929.9 days ago)
Im gonna make this short and sweet. I started smoking pot when I was 18. I do not do it anymore, however if it was legal I would jump at the chance. People who dont smoke it have no idea what it does or doesnt do, each person has diffrent reactions. I have asked many cops about this and most say the only reason it is not legal is because there is no way for the government testing how high you are. Drinking kills wayyy more people a year than smoking of pot or cigs and yet it is still legal. I used pot back when I had really bad post part depression and I had a horrible experience with depression meds which made me suicidal. I found that pot made me mello however I was still able to function with my day to day chores and activites. Many things as you all are pointing out smell nasty and yet I have to walk down the street smelling them and it makes no diffrence. I tbh would prefer the smell of pot over cig any day. If they legalize it the thc levels are going to drop and people will not be getting the `high` they do now.

TwinklinBrwnEyes (930 days ago)
Cigaretts stink, Pot stinks and I don`t want to smell that shit and be stinkin` like i`ve been smokin` it. Its your biz what you do but don`t be bringing it out in public. Ugh!

nutnut (930 days ago)
and also, legalizing it will only add to the mix bc studies also show that alcohol, and ciggerettes are connected, so pot would also be in there. so now youre not just dealing with a drunk person youre dealing with a drunk and high person out there on the road armed with a deadly weapon who at any given time could kill you or your loved ones. youre just adding to the already dangerous world we live in. if you want to talk about what kills more ppl, car accidents kill more ppl than cigerttes. with that said, i go back to my statement of adding more to the mix.

nutnut (930 days ago)
regardless of whether ppl do it or not, you have to realize making it legal in one state isnt excactly going to stop the crime, and death, and devistation related to it. were not even talking on a level of getting high and driving your car into some family and killing them, or stealing to get the money to pay for it. were talking about a global scale here. ppl die every day in drug trafficing related incidents. just getting it into the country ppl die. its illegal for a reason. ive heard all the benifits of the plant and all the `wonderful` uses for it. one state will not do away with drug dealers. its alot more complicated. i dont really want my child exposed to it. would you want your children to breathe in cigerette smoke?? dont you think the same risks are involved with pot? its still smoking. its worse on so many more lvls than cigerettes. you dont get high on second hand smoke off a pack of camels, you can get high off second hand smoke from pot. its an obsurd idea. while no, legalizing it wont `turn everyone into pot heads` it will take away some of the fear our children have when faced with the choice to try it. you can get lung cancer from it if you smoke it like you would cigerettes, and you cant tell me it wouldnt be a matter of time before some huge company marketed it, and changed the whole chemical make up of it to make it more like cigerettes. people will market and sell anything. theres just too much legalities to consider. with drinking you know theres a level and a test to take to see if youre driving over the limit. what is the limit for pot? i dont think there is any safe limit for pot, before getting behind the wheel. ive witness first hand what addictions do to people and their families. why would i want another thing thrown in there that`s `legal` isnt alcohol enough right now? isnt perscription medications enough? theres just so many legal things out there ppl are getting high off of or addicted to, i really dont think we need to add pot to the mix. what happens when pot isnt enough of a high anymore? dont studies show people who smoke pot or more likely to move on to harder drugs? lets be realistic here, is legalizing it, and making a market of it, bringing in money for the economy worth all the lives that could potentially be ruined, destroyed or lost? i look at it this way, i really dont want to have to worry that my dentist or doctor just smoked a joint on his or her way to work just because its legal now.

IvysMomma (930 days ago)
I think marijuana should definatly be legalized, alcohol and cigarettes are legal and they cause far more deaths than weed does. I think that there should be limits to where and when you can use it, just like alcohol.

pooka (930 days ago)
I think compared to alcohol weed is the lesser of the evils. I know so many people who`s lives have been ruined by drinking and I know tons of highly functioning working class weed smokers. I live in BC and work in a hemp store/adult store and I can attest to the fact that 90% of our customers buying hemp paraphernalia are middle class working people. They are NOT skid row on welfare not feeding kids low lives that people make them out to be. They are tax paying, hard working, good quality people that want the option to relax and smoke a joint after work like anyone who cracks a cold beer. I think its absolutely ridiculous that its not legal. People don`t get stoned on weed and beat their wives or rob a liquor store or drive and kill someone. Seriously when is the last time you honestly heard of a violent crime, a impaired driving charge or a weed related overdose death? Not saying it NEVER happens but it happens a fraction of what alcohol causes.

hunnybunnysmama (930 days ago)
IMO people will smoke pot weather it`s legal or not. i think it causes less harm than alcohol. how many of you ever heard someone say `my husband got so stoned last night and beat the crap outta me` it may get you high but i don`t think it gives you that sense of courage that getting drunk does. most habitual pot smokers that i know (unless they are drunks too) keep to themselves and stay holed up at their house. i don`t think it would mean you can stand on a public street and smoke it does it? you can`t do that with a beer...alcohol is much easier to `sneak` out into the public, no? i say tax the shit out of it and let the government start making money vs. spending billions on it. it would be very hard for the government to control however... i also do not think it has such a strong addictive element to it like cigs, alcohol, cocain, etc. so users wouldn't be so inclined to commit crimes for it. but hey, what do i care, i'm not a stoner.

KR (930 days ago)
I just think its funny after reading some of these that people say kids bring it to school any ways, or its not as bad as alchohol or cigarettes. The huge difference is teens are allowed to smoke cigarettes OFF school grounds. Of course they can not come to school drunk. But if pot is legal they will be smoking pot off grounds as well without punishments, and that is worse then smoking bc it plays with your sences. Think of how many more kids will be coming into the class room high bc they are allowed to carry an oz. and not be in trouble for it anymore. To say it wouldnt become worse makes me wonder what its like in other cities bc even though we have ppl time to time walk down the street smoking it, We dont need every pot head feeling free to smoke in public places just bc they are allowed. Pot does help those with cancer etc but Thats not a reason to make it legal for everyone who doesnt have it. Just adding smoking does have long term effects that we all know about and are on the packages we buy but whos to say that pot doesnt have long term effects too. They wont be selling pot at the corner stores with warnings on the packages, ppl buy it from thoese who deal and we cant trust if the pot isnt being laced with other things! Pot kills brain cells and slows our minds who knows what else its doing. Not to mention it CAN lead to other addictions and drugs making the inner citys filled with more drug addicts. Smoking doesnt lead to other drugs, pot however when it no longer gives you that high may lead you to trying other ways to get that high back! I cant help but think that smoking doesnt impair your judgement and that pot does. Think of how many ppl will be driving high simply bc they are allowed to carry small amounts. Will this increase accidents??

prettybird (930 days ago)
I don`t smoke it. Not a fan. But I say go ahead...legalize it. Tax it... whatever. Maybe thats what this country needs to mellow out some and get off the caffine rush everyone is buzzing around on.

courtenay (930 days ago)
i agree that it impairs you, and it effects people differently, which is why i believe there should be regulations on it, similar to alcohol. but i dont in any way shape or form believe that pot is more harmful than cigarettes.

canadababy (930 days ago)
I`ve smoked pot before and been f**cked...it definitely impairs me, maybe it affects people differently. And I`m sure there has been more than one car accident death related to `drugs and alcohol` (as many people have a joint while they`re having a beer or two) or even just `drugs`.

ADDISYNS~MUM (930 days ago)
i also think that it should be illegal to drive while using it! all laws that apply to alcohol should also apply to pot

athenaB1984 (930 days ago)
Impaired? I`ve smoked pot before ( I personally didn`t like the taste or anything) but i specifically remember, that stuff makes you so focused! LoL. Like all the musical genius` who smoked pot..The Beetles? hmmm... You hear a lot of driving while drunk..killing themseleves or others. Although it may have happened, I have never heard of someone killing another person because they were driving while on pot.

estellablu2 (930 days ago)
When Obama was running for President, i remember this being something he was an advocate for....so I`m really not surprised to see this happening.

canadababy (930 days ago)
courtenay, don`t forget that pot gets you HIGH! that`s the big reason why they`re illegal. Cigarettes *may* eventually kill you, but at least you`re not impaired while your smoking...because people are definitely impaired when smoking pot, enough so they shouldn`t be driving or doing other things the same as when they`re drunk.

i also have NEVER smoked a cigarette or pot in my life... and I`m 20... i watched my father die from lung cancer from smoking cigarettes... i literally watched him take his last breath! therefore i will NEVER smoke a thing in my life! i do agree though... you don`t hear many people if at all that have died of smoking pot! to me it doesn`t matter what they do... when i was in HS kids would come to school high... you go to the store and you could probably pick out 2 people that you think are high... if they do legalize it... i also think they should tax it very very heavily...

courtenay (930 days ago)
it bothers me more when people are smoking cigarettes than pot. pot has many medical benefits and is more natural than tobacco. with pot it is grown dried and smoked. tobacco is processed, with a ton of harmful chemicals added to it. cigarettes are MUCH worse and yet they are fully legal.

athenaB1984 (930 days ago)
it`s so crazy this poll is a 50/50 the whole time. wow.

canadababy (930 days ago)
I don`t want to walk by a bunch a people getting high, on the street in the middle of the day....if they`re going to `legalize` it or decriminalize or whatever they need to regulate it (keep it to bars and over 18) and tax it, heavily!! Just like cigarettes and alcohol :)

courtenay (930.1 days ago)
its like that here, in BC. It is decriminalized though, not legalized. meaning it is still illegal to buy and sell it, however you can carry up to an oz for `personal` use. i am a strong believer in the legalization of marijuana, i think the government is wasting a ton of money hunting down grow ops and arresting people who like to smoke a joint rather than hunting down the murders, child molestors, etc. yes, i used to smoke alot of pot. but i believe there are better things the criminal justice system could be focusing on. there are far worse things in the world than pot. i think it should be fully de-criminalized, legalized, and regulated. governments could make a ton of money on this and our resources could be better used. i do however, believe there should still be laws regarding it, similar to those relating to alcohol, ie: driving while intoxicated & a legal age of possession.

athenaB1984 (930.1 days ago)
I think inhaling 2nd hand smoke from a cigarette is so much worse that pot. I personally don`t like pot. Everyone I know loves it and is in to it, not me. I pretty much despise it, BUT I know that there are many benefits to smoking pot. Hence, medical marijuana. You don`t hear about medical cigarettes right? As far as kids taking it to school..they do anyway, same as cigarettes. They are not of age and sneaking it in. If they legalize it, it`s not like they`re going to reduce the age limit to 18 and under..it will still be prohibited for underage. As far as I am concerned, alcohol and cigarettes are far more dangerous and THEY are legal. When was the last time you`ve heard of someone dying from kidney or liver failure due to pot? Nope..you get if from drinking? or lung cancer and empheziema (sp?) due to pot? Nope...cigarettes. Plus, do you know hoe many drug dealers would be out of business? You could legally grow your own pot! That`s a huge percentage of drug dealers and crimes that will be put to rest.

mikey and cjs mommy (930.1 days ago)
honestly i dont see how it could make cali even worse. i live in sacramento. i dont smoke pot either but my whole thing is....its the easiest thing to get your hands on. and legalizing it isnt going to suddenly turn EVERYONE into pot heads. the same ppl who smole pot now will still be the ones smoking it then.....we will just be making money off of it. i for one just wish our state wasnt ran so low into the ground this is what it has come to to dig us out! how sad!

KR (930.1 days ago)
i live in Vancouver BC and they have been talking about doing the same thing for a couple years. Im proud to say im 22 and have NEVER smoked pot. I dont want them to legalize it because i think more people will begin to walk down the streets smoking it like a cig. I for one dont want my children breathing it in when we go out for the day. I think situations will become much worse. It smells so nasty and i think its a gross habit. I think more kids will start taking it to school as well, and i can only hope my children dont fall to peer presure and choose not to smoke like me.
