armymom (925.7 days ago) best idea for you is to make a menu out for the week that includes 3 daily meals and snack ideas for each day and make your list out that way.. and stick to your list only! Don`t impulsely buy or shop without a list.. you WILL buy and waste more food that way. What I do is make a list of what I`ll make for dinner that week (since that`s the only meal 3 people eat together) and write down all the ingredients I`ll need to prepare those 5-7 meals... then for breakfast and lunch I buy the necessities such as milk, bread, eggs, and lunch meat OR I make a huge Pasta salad that will lasts for luches for 3-4 days OR I buy salad veggies, cut them up as soon as I bring them home, and store them in tupperware so I have an easily prepared salad for lunch or dinner (with chicken breast on top). We spend about $50-$75 a week with this plan whereas before we`d easily spend $200 a week on crap that went bad quickly.
pooka (925.7 days ago) I shop around the outside lanes mostly. This means... Meats - extra lean ground beef, shaved deli meat, fish/seafood (either sole or salmon usually, sometimes crab or shrimp if its a good deal, chicken breast. Dairy- yogurt, milk, sour cream, hard cheeses (extra old cheddar mmm, Gouda, provolone), feta cheese, eggs. Veggies - sweet potatoes, peppers (red, green, yellow), onions, potato (new or white), fresh garlic, fresh ginger, green onion, squashes (acorn, spaghetti, butternut), lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, corn on cob, fresh green beans. Fruits - depends on the season but summer its peaches, nectarines, cherries, strawberries, blue berries, bananas. Winter is more like apples, melons, oranges, bananas. Grains - Bagels, whole grain breads, whole grain buns, cereals, oatmeal, cream of wheat, pancake mix, whole grain pastas. Then i get some extras like a few cans of veggies, pasta sauces, cat food, peanut butter etc. I never buy prepackaged/premade foods other then perogies cause my husband loves them and the odd box of kraft dinner for quick lunches.

Lookalike (925.7 days ago) This week`s grocery list: bananas, lettuce, juice concentrate, chalupa shells, wheat bread, ground turkey, ground beef, bacon, salsa, paper towels, flour, chocolate chips, salt, baking soda, maple syrup, cereal, milk, plain yogurt, margerine, sour cream.
I make the same items every week. Usually I make a lot of baked chicken, rice either white or mexican, beans, meat loaf or chili, hamburgers or turkey burgers, chalupas, some kind of pasta, bacon and eggs are a breakfast staple for us, oatmeal, cereal and milk, sausage and rice, tortillas (by hand), mashed potatoes and gravy, baked potatoes, and I always make some kind of cookie dough to have ready made in fridge and I usually make an apple crisp once per week because it`s really easy and tastes like apple pie without the hassle.
