Lookalike (920.4 days ago) My lunch box was a plastic grocery bag and school supplies last more than one year....
linzigenavieve (920.9 days ago) My son was in kindergarten last year and you do NOT need to buy them anything but a back pack, unless you want it for home use. I bought my sons back pack from walmart for under $10 and we got him a couple `school only` shirts, so it wasn`t bad at all.
ibaheir2dathrone (921.1 days ago) Yes, it can add up. I have 2 in school (6th and 3rd. You buy the basics plus tissues, baby wipes, dry erase markers, zip locks etc. It does get pricey. Thankfully my hubby`s family buys all of the kids school supplies and gives them out during the family picnic each Aug. That helps big time!! We only need to focus on clothes.
Angel-baby (921.1 days ago) My daughter will be in 1st grade in a few weeks and I didn`t think it was too bad. The book bag I bought her from Walmart and was $5. The school supplies she needed, I got at Meijer`s for VERY cheap when they were all on sale.. I was actually surprised how cheaply I found the supplies this year.
Love.Nora (921.1 days ago) My 5 year old is starting school on the 12th and frankly the list wasnt too bad. I think l8er in high school students buy more than what they do in earlier years (not just caus eof needs but of wants and quality). Outside of the school list be got some clothes and a back pack. I dont feel he needs a lunch box because I am more than willing to spend around 55.00 a month for a school lunch, which in the end saves me money for packed lunches which can cost wayyy more to make. A piece of advice also is hit up the school supplies you know they will need the next year and when everything goes on sale you can stock up for the following year :D Be reminded the things you buy for kinder for example is for all the kids to use for the whole year! If we didnt buy these ourselves we would be forced to pay higher school fees anyways. I prefer having a bit of an option.
angie2008 (921.1 days ago) wait until he goes to school and he should get a list of what he needs for school. I think too many parents buy everyhting they think their child needs and lots of things get broken, lost, or never used.
nmck (921.2 days ago) As a teacher, I can tell you my kids come to school with WAY more supplies than they need. I suggest waiting for anything more than the basics to ask his teachers what he needs. I have scissors, glue, crayons and markers kept in my classroom for my kids. I provide them with their folders, and binders are not allowed in my school since we don`t have lockers and they don`t fit in their desks. All I require my students to have is a pencils, a pencil pouch (not a box), 1 pen, and some lined paper. But all teachers/schools/etc are different!! I would start with a back pack, lunch box, and pencils.
5against1 (921.2 days ago) wait til they get to middle school! last year my son was required to have this special calculator just for math. the average price for this calculator was 130. i found 1 on ebay for 75...for 4 kids in grade scool, between binders, notebooks, supplies, backpacks, etc. it can easily b 350.
RobinG (921.2 days ago) We shop at the last minute like the week before, lol, while it is harder to find some stuff it is always cheaper because things are marked down ~ and K isnt so bad ~ wait til middle school or high, it is horrible!! We found our target has the best prices. Kmart and staples are really high so we avoid them ~ Did you purchase what was one the list provided or just buy stuff? Dont buy anthing that is not told to buy. Some things are provided and some arent. Some things are needed some arent. Our school we do have to buy all the basics, folders, crayons, colored pencils, post it notes, scissors, pencil box etc. They dont provide it. We get a list of stuff that is needed ~ we have at least a dozen or so items for each grade that is needed to be purchased.
KR (921.2 days ago) i dont have children in school yet but i do have a little brother starting K this yr. It is expensive and when your in elem you have to purchase certain school suppplies and cant get everything on your own so i know what you mean. However they do let you get your own crayons (though they tell you what ones to get) and stuff like that. I say buy what they require you to buy and everything else go to walmart!!
Austin::and::Alexs::Momma (921.2 days ago) You probably won`t need to purchase any of those items for kindergarten (most schools supply those items - my son is going into 4th and we haven`t really had to buy any of it) - besides backpack and lunch box. =) But yes they are expensive. ;)
