Luis and Rosalanis Mami (1401.4 days ago) I had a miscarriage and never had a dnc, the doctors say it is better to not have one donne unless necessary, my placenta and everything came out the day after i miscarried and i had blood work done for a few weeks to make sure my numbers were going all the way down. when i got pregnant with my son they asked me if i was scraped and i said no and they said it is better for the uterus with subsequent prengnacies if it had not been scraped. I guess having a dnc puts you at greater risk for miscarriage the next time around.
jessberr31 (1401.4 days ago) I had two m/c`s and had a d&c with both. The first my baby died at 6wks and my body would not expell it on its own. I never bled or anything. Only a little spotting at 7wks and went to the dr that day and thats when I found out there may be a problem. Anyways, I carried the baby until 10wks and then my dr gave me a d&c. The second time I had been bleeding for 2 weeks before the baby died, and after the baby passed I was bleeding soooo much and passing huge clots (sorry TMI!). I didn`t want to go through a natural m/c at home with my three young children there and had no one to keep them. So I had a d&c asap. Yes, there are risks with d&c`s, like there a risk with EVERYTHING. There are risks to having a natural m/c also, like hemmoraging, or not passing everything and getting an infection and having to have a d&c anyway. So its all up to the woman.
nutnut (1401.4 days ago) it depends she may not need one, i personally would give it time to expell everything naturally, however i would get checked to be sure everything is gone.
MJamison (1401.5 days ago) She may not need one! I just had a miscarriage and they dont want me to have one done! They are afraid there might be damage to the uterus from having my son... so it was recommended not to have one done!
CountryMamma83 (1401.5 days ago) I had a natural miscarriage and had an ultrasound to make sure it had all come out on it`s own. Someone close to me just had a missed miscarriage. The baby died at 8wks and she never bled. Found out at their 13wk ultrasound. She had to have a D&C.
sheework (1401.5 days ago) I have had 4 miscarriages and never once had a d&c. There are other options should she chose them. You can take pills to bring on the miscarriage which is what I did. You can wait for it to start naturally or you can get a d&c. With a d&c it`s just tends to ensure everything is passed, and you don`t have to really deal with passing the baby. But there can be risks something she should talk with her doctor about.
canadababy (1401.5 days ago) Not everyone that has a miscarriage needs a DandC. My step-sister did though and she had to wait, I think it was a week, before she had the procedure. But it was about a month after the miscarriage that her doctor realized it all hadn`t come out on it`s own. If there is anything left over it is important at some time to have it all removed because of the risk of toxic shock.
