I would go with a one side electric. I had a manual avent but just pumping at home just to increase my supply became a pain. I love my electric and think it was a really good decision to get one. It shouldn`t hurt after the first few weeks.

Yes my hand would hurt every now and then but i would just switch and use my left hand for a couple minutes and it would be fine. I have minor arthritis in my hands too and the days it was bothering me the most it would just take me a couple minutes longer to pump.

for the ladies using the manual (which is what i have been leaning towards) how about the hand cramps ive heard about?? how bad is it esp if its something i plan to us for at least a yr...i hope...

My sister also likes her manual pump. She is in full control of it so it take far less time to use. She works full time and is able to get plenty of milk with it. She paid about $40 for it too.

Pumping shouldn`t hurt. Its never hurt me, ever. I personally liked my Avent manual pump better then the medela electric pump that i borrowed from my SIL. For some reason it really bothered me having something electric pumping milk out and found that doing it manually i was able to get more milk out in a better amount of time and it was more comfortable being able to control it, i had this fear that the electric would malfunction. Plus it was a lot more portable and i was able to carry it within the cooler it came with, with the bottles in there too while i was at school. But my friend who was also BF used an electric pump that used a car adapter to work in her car and pumped in her car when needed. But the concensus is usually an electric pump, i personally liked my manual pump and used it for the entire year when i needed it.

Electric definatly because breast pumping hurts and its really hard to purposely hurt yourself by using a manual pump i prolly would have givin up after a couple of days if i didnt have an electric pump
