RowanSkysMom (901.7 days ago) I agree, sometimes I want to tell people how dumb I think they are so I just avoid the poll.
pooka (901.7 days ago) I don`t think this is really about those replies that bash. I think its about the ones that people choose to take as a personal attack even when they are only someone with a different opinion. Have you ever looked at a poll that was deleted (and yes you can do this) and noticed that the majority of them are NOT deleted because someone said something directly rude to another user but simply because they had a different opinion or were viewed by mods as being `controversial`
heathert (901.7 days ago) I agree with ladobruk and pooka. I think we should remember our opinions are just that and should be worded accordingly. Moms are just trying to do our best and as fellow moms and women we should support and try to be a little more open minded that there are more than one way do to things. As I have gotten older several issues and my thoughts on things have changed as I have changed. Now I also think if you bash someone be ready to get it in return. I have also read lots of good advice and learned different ways of doing things. One more thing Know it alls bug me more than anything and moms bashing SAHM or working moms
heathert (901.7 days ago) neverpreggers- I did not see the poll but why was yours deleted about your experience and not anothers? ODD! That does not seem right if you opened up about something painful you went through it may of been beneficial to someone else.
butterblocksmom (901.7 days ago) Ohhhhh, I remember the term `ignorant` being used in a poll recently and it started a MAJOR bru-ha-ha...and not in a good way. Someone used it in its proper form and a couple of people got really mad thinking it was an insult. I guess she could have used a different word but she also put into context in that very same comment what she meant by it. Or polls that are put up with tongue in cheek comments like that one where there was the gal who was jokingly grumbling about all the gals that lost weight so quickly after birth...that got super nasty too...and it was a pretty light hearted poll until some people got very offended... SO much can be misinterpretted in written form. Communication is 80% non-verbal right. Sometimes all it takes is one person in a foul mood....
pooka (901.8 days ago) I think its not always about choosing your words different but also remembering this is a form that does not allow for 80% of language cues. Take the use of the word ignorant for example. How many times have you seen it used in its proper form `unknowing` and be taken out of context to mean someone is `stupid or rude` sure there are people here who word things poorly but there are an equal amount that look for reasons to be offended and are obviously going to find them.
butterblocksmom (901.8 days ago) Sorry Happy, I edited my response as I got you and Never mixed up for a minute re: the rape issue. But I do remember your comment because I was thinking...what the heck...I`ll see if I can find it.
pooka (901.8 days ago) I think the admins here coddle too much. I mean really if you pick up a newspaper, turn a tv on, read a site on the internet that you find offense your beliefs, is counter to your opinions, or challenges your views do you storm the news paper office, cancel your cable, demand the site be removed from the internet? No you act like an adult and turn the page, the channel, close the site. Why should it be any different here? If something is directed towards a particular user then I can accept delete it if it is actual harassment. But very few comments are deleted for those reasons. They are deleted because a few people find it offense their beliefs, is counter to their opinion, or challenges their views. Instead of acting like adults and dealing, they run to the admins and have the whole poll removed. I actually find it rather sad that it creates an overall view of this forum as being close minded, un-flexible, and only catering to those who hold a particular belief or opinion. What happened to the idea of personal responsibility?
happyforest (901.8 days ago) it wasnt me who was raped. and i dont ever make comments about ppl starting drama. i think u must have me confused with someone else. i know there is bound to be drama with the types of subjects we talk about (parenting styles, vacs, bf, formula, circ, abortion, pretty much anything that has to do with babies) and i come to the polls section FULLY AWARE of this. my point is that if someone doesnt like what goes on here or has problems with others leaving opinions, then why do they come??
butterblocksmom (901.8 days ago) Well, Happy, I do know some people just have bad days and sometimes react in a way they wouldn`t normally and therefore take offense at a poll or comment they might not normally look twice at. I only say that because I remember you making a comment on one of my polls a few months back accusing me or someone else on the poll about `starting drama` which is counterintuative to what you are stating now....just an observation. My poll was about people in our lives acting like sanctimommies and we were all having a good conversation until your comment made me delete the poll.
andriette and christians mummy liz (901.8 days ago) I agree and also disagree, this is not a place to get rude, realy if we will all just respect other ppl this world will be a much better place and some ppl are super sensitive, ive heard of a website(not sure what website) where loads of ppl attacked a woman unfairly unknowingly to them she was in a deep dark hole of deppresion and commited suicide and left a letter.on the other hand some ppl get offended over nothing,i think coz this world gets very defensive too quick before thinking it over.Jmho:-)
Lookalike (901.8 days ago) I don`t think deleting a poll or comment is appropriate unless that comment of poll is directed at a specific individual just to be rude. I`ve had lots of comments deleted that weren`t even about anybody but myself and my experiences, but when people have openly attacked me and my opinion, their comment isn`t deleted. That really bugged me. Just now when the abortion polls were up, my comment about my personal experience with being raped was deleted, but another person`s wasn`t. Personally, deleting a comment about rape is counter productive to our struggle against rape and molestation. If we pretend it doesn`t happen because the thought of it is offensive, then we`re giving the rapists the power instead of claiming the power ourselves. It took me a long time to finally feel comfortable enough to talk openly about it and it just tears me apart that people are trying to stop me when they should be applauding me for being vocal about it.
jq baby (901.9 days ago) I am confused I just left a comment on a poll was it deleted? Who makes the decision to do that if it is deleted?
avaann (901.9 days ago) i agree...somewhat. i just feel that this isn`t the place for `heated` conversations or behavior that would offend a large group of individuals. for instance - this poll is debatable because it`s not really a poll... just calling people out.
