Baby-Beiler (895.5 days ago) with my daughter i just took tylenol and kept on going with it. also try lanolin and keep those nipples moist with lanolin or express a bit of milk after each feeding... it might hurt if th enipples are raw, and rub that on the nipples. it sounds crazy but it really helps alot. Keep trying
AngieP (895.9 days ago) Although the shield was hard to deal with I used it for about 2 weeks after my son was born. Finally, one day he just latched on correctly with out it. It was sooooooo worth putting up with the nipple shield. My son nursed until 22 months and we have such a close bond. He loves skin. Anytime anyone is holding him he just rubs their arm. It is so sweet. I think it could be because of the nursing and closeness. I just love him to bits.
emi (896.1 days ago) I tried the sheild and found it annoying and couldn`t feed properly. Does your little one have a white tongue? If so you might have thrush on your nipples.. this happened to me and went undiagnosed for so long and i was in so much pain. If your little ones tongue is white go to the pharmacy and ask for Daktarin.. it`s a safe oral gel tht you can put on your nipples and it doesn`t matter if bub gets it in their mouth. Otherwise I`d reccomend lanolin which is also safe for baby and very soothing for sore nipples. Goo luck.. i feel your pain.. it gets better
jekajoy (896.2 days ago) Nipple shields should only be used very temporarily as they can greatly affect supply. If you are too sore, contact a lactation counselor or the LLL and have them assess your feedings for correct latch and positioning. Good luck and congrats on your decision to breastfeed! I used them for 2 days until my nipple healed enough to tolerate latching. Jess F. RN-BSN, CLC
charlihadley (896.2 days ago) i used them because my son culdnt latch onto my nipple, but it stll hurt and felt really chappef....i will try using them agin with this baby!
luvbeingamom (896.2 days ago) Yes, i used them and they were wonderful. I started using them b/c of inverted nipples but i also found the plus is that i never got that real raw feeling that you get at the beginning of bf. I was able to stop using them completely by the time my son was 2 months and successfully nursed until 15 months when he weened himself.
♥ ħhlЄy ▫ ßєär ®♥ (896.2 days ago) yes! they helped me tremendously the first time around!! Not only because I was sore but because my LO`s mouth was tiny and he had a hard time latching on. The nipple shields work great
LKLmama (896.2 days ago) I would contact a LC it sounds like you may have a poor latch. It shouldnt hurt that much. Contact LLL.
honghuzhenni (896.2 days ago) I was in a LOT of pain, and they helped a TON. Hope you find some relief soon.
baby[bump]mama (896.2 days ago) i was never in any pain when i BF but i did you the sheilds with my son who was a preemie. they worked great but my son would tire easy, but i am pretty sure thats because of his premaurity. good luck!
