My daughters always said the same thing since she was 3...Im going to be famous, Im going to sing and everyone willw atch me on tv and the movies! LOL. My son will be 4 in a couple weeks and says a Marine, just like daddy.

My son at that age wanted to be a super hero! He will now say he wants to be a veterenarian when he GROWS UP!

My son in pre-school (last year) told them he wanted to be a firefighter. So yeah I think the can understand the question to a point, but some come up with some funny answers.

My daughter wants to be a tennis player and a hairdresser.... I can actually see her as a hairdresser, we caught her giving barbie a haircut the other day LOL!!

it depends if the kid was ever asked that question before. my daughter kept saying `but im not growed up, im a kid` LOL. she still tells anyone who asks her this question that she doesnt want to grow up, she likes being a kid and being with mommy and daddy. LOL i usually laugh and say to her `you wont be saying that at 16` to which she replies `yes i will, 16 is a bajillion days away, dont worry bout it mom` =P

my neice said she wants to be a princess when she grows up. my nefew doesn`t have a clue. maybe give him an example of an occupation to get his mind going a bit. Maybe it`s meant to have that kind of convo with your kid that they were necessarily supposed to know but you can explore together.

My son told me when he was 4 that he wanted to be a police officer. He said he would grow a mustache and his dad would drive.
