hotpotaaaaato (892.5 days ago) I didn`t have alcohol in the beginning, but after baby was older I did/still do have a drink or two occasionally, and I DO notice it really increases my milk at the next few feedings.
my hands r full (892.5 days ago) My mil told me the same thing when i was pregnant with my last baby and i looked it up on the net and just like pooka posted.. you can also drink non alcoholic beer and its still has the same effect. Never tried it though lol.
KR (892.6 days ago) AAA NEVER HERD OF THIS.. WOULD I DO IT.. NO.
canadababy (892.6 days ago) I`ve heard that too....I had a beer at night after my LO went to bed starting around 6weeks old. I never had a `few` beers, but enjoyed one, sometimes two :)
angie2008 (892.6 days ago) i`ve heard it but would never do it. could you imagine being drunk in a hospital and trying to take care of a baby. lol. try something else if you feel the need but your milk will come in within a few days and baby will get the much needed colustrum until then.
pooka (892.6 days ago) non-alcoholic beer works just as well so I would compromise with your husband and tell him you will try that LOL
nmck (892.7 days ago) I have a friend who did this. Her husband brought the beer right in without sneaking. Nurses said it was a good idea!
happyforest (892.7 days ago) beer DOES help increase milk production, but after birth your body makes so much milk anyway i doubt you will need to do that. keep it in mind though in case your supply lowers sometime. one time i had dried up all the way, i was so upset, i went out a few nights later and drank 4 beers, i woke up in the middle of the night SOOOO engorged and full of milk! it really does work!
t555rm (892.7 days ago) That`s new to me. I`ve heard that back in the day new moms were given brandy to help with postpartum recovery.
andriette and christians mummy liz (892.7 days ago) Well we have Castel lager milk stout here, contains alchol but ive heard it helps, but never heard of normal beer even being safe, theres still alcohol going to baby IF u dont pump and dump.I wont do it,one gets better and safer things that help like fenugreek or mothers milk.Imho
armymom (892.7 days ago) I drank 1-2 beers every night after I put my little one to bed and I knew he`d been asleep for 4+ hours at a time. I didn`t start drinking beer till he was 4 months old - that`s when I started having supply troubles. It helped alot... by morning I was nearly bursting.
pooka (892.7 days ago) this is just an fyi from the Le leche league site about the topic.
`Beer, but not ethanol, has been reported in a number of studies to stimulate prolactin levels and breastmilk production (1, 2, 3). Thus it is presumed that the polysaccharide from barley may be the prolactin-stimulating component of beer (4). Non-alcoholic beer is equally effective. ` http://www.llli.org/FAQ/alcohol.html
pooka (892.7 days ago) malt alcohol is sometimes recommended IF your having troubles with your milk supply but I don`t think its something you should do consider right off the get go. There are better and more natural ways of increasing milk production then by drinking beer.
mamatabby (892.7 days ago) I think your DH is just silly!! But I know I will be brestfeeding and once I get home and I`m settled I`m having a beer. My girlfriend said she would sneek me a beer in to the hospital. But I swear I would be the first to get caught lol. Good luck. Very controversial subject. Lol some ladies might get upset.
