Now as we got older on the eve, the whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins etc, started to play a game called `trash or treasure` you bring 3 beautifully wrapped items that are new, not bought but usually something you got from say a neighbor that you have kept in the box since its not your style at all! and so we put all the beautiful gifts in the center and with a dice go rounds 1-6 if on round 1 you roll a 1 you get a gift if you roll doubles you get 2 gifts, this goes on until there are no more gifts in the center
now the fun begins since we do one more round of 1-6 of stealing gifts, so lets say someone got the nice big box you wanted this is your chance to get it, but it can be taken from you as well... this is were we have the most fun and its great because we have no clue what were fighting to get, trust me there are a few of these items that make it back to the game each yr lol, but its a ton of fun!!!
we play til 11:45 and then get in a circle in the living room and pick a piece of paper out of a hat that has the lyrics of `the 12 days of christmas` and well my aunt `santa claus` always gets `5 golden rings` but ours is random and we all sing but let the person with the lyric sing their part for ex: i might have 4 turtle doves and i have to be ready to sing my part each round!! its fun since none of us are singers and its usually a really good laugh!!
then after that its 12 or a lil after and my aunt passes out the gifts and when we all have our gifts we tear them open like 5 yrs olds!!
thank yous, hugs and kisses and everyone goes home!!
funny on christmas my immediate family stills stays home, eats left overs watch movies and enjoy our gifts! ;)

After Christmas eve service we go home and are aloud to open one small gift from one person in the house. Then we read the Story of the first Christmas and sit in the Childrens room and sing them to sleep. Usually my husband falls asleep before they do but I don`t mind. Everything is always ready it just needs to be put under the tree.

On Christmas Eve we go to Christmas Eve Mass as a family, then we go out and look at Christmas Lights, come back home and now let the little kids open a present on Christmas Eve. My Mom and Dad take turns reciting the Night Before Christmas to the Grandchildren but I must admit being 31 I still love when they recite The Night Before Christmas....one of my greatest childhood memories!!

when I was little every year we opened one present under the tree on Christmas Eve, always from the cat(s) and it was ALWAYS jammies so we`d all have cute matching jammies on for Christmas morning pics. I will be doing this too...

We take the kids around to see Christmas lights on the Eve. Now that our girls are little older, we wait for them to come wake us up (even though I am already up waiting for them..lol) all excited to open up their gifts. Then I usually cook a pretty big dinner and relax! I love the holiday season! Oh yeah we watch the Christmas Story marathon like all Christmas Eve and all of the goodies too!

Well, we don`t really have any true traditions. We go to my hubby`s parents house for lunch on Christmas day, stuff like that.... I plan to start at least one for my LO though. Her birthday is 8 days before Christmas so that`s going to be a busy time already... Oh, we do get ornaments every year. We usually get ones that mean something for us for that year. Sometimes we`ll start a series so we have to collect them every year. I guess that could count as a tradition :o)

Gingerbread houses. I have 3 older sisters and 1 older brother.. We`re all well in our 20`s now.. live in different states but still try to get together (at least all the girls do since my brother lives in London, and we`re all in the US) Anyways, we get together at my parents house and have a gingerbread house competition.. my mom is the judge. We are all really artsy and creative so it can become VERY competitive.. when we were younger my mom never named a winner but she would secretly tell you.. YOURS was my favorite. LOL.. The gingerbread craze can go on for weeks at my house.. I plan to keep the tradition going with my own children.. as I`m sure my sisters will too. That is my favorite part of the holidays - Gingerbread week. =)
