phooey (889.5 days ago) I`m a teacher too, I try not to send home frivolous work, but at the same time I want to keep the parents informed of their child`s progress so that when report cards come around there are no surprises. As a parent (i`m not one yet, overdue 5 days - GAG), I plan to keep the things that really make my heart melt or assignments where her personality really shows through, such as certain writing assignments. Things from kinder are all special though, imo! Even just the way they write their names! :0)
nmck (889.5 days ago) About keeping his work for him when he is older...on a trip home a few years ago, my MIL foisted boxes of crap she had saved from my husband`s school days on him. He was actually pretty annoyed, and threw it right in his apartment dumpster.
nmck (889.5 days ago) I am a teacher, and I know we send home TONS of stuff!! Here is what one of my most organized parents did: When they get home, go through there stuff just like going through the mail. Throw out any flyers/communications you do not need. Immediately fill in anything you need to return, and put it back in the folder. As for completed work, drawings, etc... buy a good 3 hole punch and a huge binder. Hole punch his work if you want to keep it and put it in the binder. Then it is out of the way but easy to look through if he or you are interested in flipping through it. My advice...only keep the BEST things, and you might have room for a few grades in the same binder!
munchkinsmommie (889.6 days ago) I saved every piece he brought home last year. This summer, I went through it and kept artwork, projects, stories they wrote. I threw away the daily work stuff. I want to try and keep up with keeping special things like that so he can have them when he is older.
mommyagain3 (889.6 days ago) I keep almost everything from Kindergarten, but only the special stuff after that! I have a bin for each and put them in there to save for later along with baby items, special items and cards from different occasions, I have had to upgrade to bigger bins over the years..lol
nutnut (889.6 days ago) ok i kept every single piece of paper last year and it got so out of control finally i gave up and i threw them out. i kept only her drawings and art work on the fridge until she got a new one to hang then we throw out the old ones. of course i dont let her know this lol. its crazy. some things i cant throw out like her first 100% on her test. or her mother`s day card with her handprint. but for the most part, i pitch it. school started here the last week of aug, and already my desk has a huge stack of papers i need to pitch. i keep them for a couple weeks in a folder, then i throw out one month after i start the new month. if not it would seriously consume me.
ibaheir2dathrone (889.6 days ago) Lol, bless your heart. It does get overwhelmimg doesn`t it?What is important to them I keep till the next one comes in. One fav. pic. can go on the icebox. Then the next fave. replaces the old one. Also a when they get older the drawings are replaced by hard earned tests. (prejects, mmap scores, essay, reports etc.) My two are in the 6th and 3rd grade. LOTS and lots of papers come in every day plus a butt-load on Fri. That is what I have done and it works for me. :o)
