ashleyplus2 (888.4 days ago) I would NEVER EVER read my child`s diary. Everyone, even children, need privacy and space to some degree. My mom used to always go through my stuff and she read my diaries and journals, and I felt like I was in prison. I will check up on my kids and make sure they are on track, but I don`t think I would go as far as snooping through their things unless I have a good reason to.
nutnut (888.4 days ago) and yes i am nosey by nature, so i check up on her all the time, and i probably will continue to check up on her, but not just barge in or rummage through her personal items.
nutnut (888.4 days ago) i wouldnt do it. think about how you would feel if your mom read your diary? you have to trust your children until they give you a reason not to. my mother `cleaned our rooms` often. it annoyed me. i didnt want her in there. not bc i was hiding much of anything, i was a good kid, good grades, didnt do drugs, didnt steal or hang out with the wrong crowd, didnt smoke, etc. but i wanted privacy. we got into alot of issues bc she would barge into myroom whenever she felt like it. i will not do that to my daughter. she`s little now, but even so, if im checking up on her, i will knock on the door first then open it to talk to her. if i want her to grow up and respect people`s privacy then i have to set that example by respecting hers, unless she gives me just cause not to. i also try to promote openness as well, somethign i didnt have growing up either. i had good parents, but they just werent open, we didnt talk about anything, we didnt show affection. im the total opposite with my daughter. hopefully ive done right by her and she will be a good teen. well see....lol
