courtenay (886.1 days ago) wow, my daughter just got stung by a wasp 2 weekends ago when she was 10.5 months. she had redness and such and some swelling but no immediate reaction. the longer time passes from the sting before a reaction (if at all) develops = less severe reaction. i did call 811 which is nurses hotline here in bc canada and they did talk to me about watching for any swelling in the eyes and lips, any hives or rash, any kind of labored breathing. i was recommended to take her to a doctor the next day or the hospital that night (no clinics were open for us either) if it would make me feel better because of the age they have not completed their tetnus immunization and that can be a concern because bees can carry tetnus. i took her in and she was fine, the doctor had us wait an hour so that the total time elapsed from the sting was 3 hours. also, just a heads up, just because they dont have a reaction the first time doesnt mean they wont have a reaction the second time (it is scary). there is a bit more info in my blog too. sorry to hear about the sting i know how much it sucks. MummyLJ (886.2 days ago) you can also put a paste of baking soda and water on it to help with any itching/inflammation EditDelete
nmck (886.2 days ago) I would give a dose of benadryl (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon is on my chart for 12-20 pounds) to help with the reaction in general. EditDelete
pooka (886.2 days ago) oh you can also put some teething gel on it .. it will numb the area EditDelete
pooka (886.2 days ago) most times wasps don`t sting they bite and its the sting people react to.. unlike bees who sting and don`t bite.. I`d just give benydril for any swelling, put ice or after bite stuff on it if its still hurting. EditDelete
military~mommy (886.2 days ago) You would have seen an anaphylactic reaction by now. If this is the first time she has been stung, there will be no allergic reaction. The first exposure is like a free pass, her immune system won`t freak out, it is the second exposure where an allergy will present itself. The imune system has to have at least 2 incounters before it over reacts causing an allergic reaction. EditDelete
