happyforest (882.2 days ago) are you talking about a non-circ baby? you are NOT supposed to pull back the skin!! this can cause adhesions and permanent damage. i cant believe a DOCTOR told you that!!! the skin will naturally start to pull back on its own when the kid is older, like 5 or something, and thats when he needs to start pulling back during bath time or shower time, but not until then!!
t555rm (882.4 days ago) California-mom, my husband`s boss`s son had an infection too and they had to circumcise him at the age of 1. That story scared me so I try to keep that area as clean as possible. But now am confused...
california-mom (882.4 days ago) My son is circumsized so I have no experience with it. HOWEVER, my friends baby had to get circumsized at age 1.5 because they initially didnt circ him, never cleaned it and over time he developed a terrible infection and had to get it done anyway. She always said it was too `weird` to clean it so she didnt. If my son wasnt, Id still pull it back and clean it jsut like any otehr part of him.
pooka (882.4 days ago) right but it says `As an adolescent`
pooka (882.4 days ago) ladobruk - not sure if your posting that for or against pulling it back but it says in there exactly what I said.. the foreskin does not naturally pull back in a young infant. Cleaning it like that is for later in life. Like that stated. Either way thanks for posting it!
EmmaReed84 (882.5 days ago) I didn`t do it with my eldest son I made sure he was clean and washed it, but I never ever pulled it back. My 2nd son has Hypospadias, where the foreskin has not grown properly and because it is only half covered I pulled it back slightly and clean, although now he is almost a year, when I do it, he giggles.
pooka (882.5 days ago) t555rm babies foreskins are fused to the glands at birth. Its not until they grow old enough to play with themselves that they will pull back completely. This actually protects them as the foreskin produces smagma which keeps the glands and skin properly lubricated and prevents feces and bacteria from getting in there. I am really surprised (okay well not THAT surprised LOL) that your doctor would be telling you to do this. Unfortunately its often amazing how ill informed some doctors are.
greekgoddess26 (882.5 days ago) mu son is circumsized and his pediatrician told me the same thing to just pull back his skin and clean it everytime i change his diaper
t555rm (882.5 days ago) elle and pooka, that`s interesting. Never knew that, thanx! Hmm his doc never fails to remind me to clean it every time we go in for an appnt. I do it in the bath and hey am
no expert. And try getting my squirmy 10.5 month old to stay still for me, plus those man parts get so slippery in the bath LOL. So now I feel better about not cleaning it everyday. It`s hard. ladobruk, am using my iPhone right now so I haven`t visited the link u sent. Don`t know how to cut n paste on this.
pooka (882.5 days ago) boys who are not circumcised do not require the foreskin pulled back in fact you shouldn`t as it doesn`t naturally go back until they are older. You just have to wash with soap and water and that`s it.
SarahLJ (882.5 days ago) I was told to never pull back the skin for my son to clean.
t555rm (882.5 days ago) Boys who are circumsized don`t need to do that. I just want to know what the rest of us, whose aren`t, do.
t555rm (882.5 days ago) He`s not that`s why I do it.
pc (882.5 days ago) Not sure if your son is circumsized, mine is, and I do not have to pull back the skin to clean.
