mamabear13 (181.4 days ago) I had thrush with my son (similar) They gave me antibiotics and told me not to feed him any more because it was passing to his mouth (this was 4 years ago). Talked to my doc about it this week, and she said that if it happens again to KEEP breast feeding and take antibiotics and warm washcloth :) Keep cleaning the washcloth with baby soap since it`s gentle.
mariettap (181.4 days ago) You said you were pregnant. Are you also breastfeeding a baby? I haven`t heard of mastitis in someone who isn`t already nursing. If you are BFing, great. Keep it up. The way to get through it and get better is to keep emptying the breast. As someone else mentioned, hot shower/warm compress, massage the sore part, especially right before and/or during nursing or pumping. Relieve the pressure and the pain will subside. You must have had a fever along with it, or they might have held off on antibiotics. You should begin to feel much better within 24 hours. If you are not much better tomorrow, then call the doc b/c you might need a different prescription. Someone else said not to feed your milk to the baby--That is not correct, unless your baby is sick/underdeveloped enough to require NICU care (even then check w/ the docs), your milk is still the very best food for your baby, even with mastitis. I hope you feel better soon. Oh yeah, Tylenol! Safe for mother and baby and fetus alike.
MysticMoonMommyIsBack (181.5 days ago) I had it twice with my 3rd when I when I was breastfeeding him. Both times I had to be put on medication, but I found that hot compresses helped a lot. They said not to let the baby nurse from the breast that it was in, but to pump instead and to throw the pumped milk away. Since you`re not nursing right now, you will most likely have to take antibotics and just rely on them. Hot compresses should help too. Good luck!
mom2dom (181.6 days ago) I had it twice when I was bfing. Medication was the only relief!! Good luck : )
loribb (181.6 days ago) I will be starting a course of antibiotics today, I was just looking for ways to sooth my sore boob in the meantime :) Thanks ladies!
courtenay (181.6 days ago) you will probably need antibiotics if its progressed to full mastisis which is an infection in the breast usually casued by clogged ducts. you can use warm compresses, steamy showers, and breast massage. usually the best cure is to have the baby keep nursing through it (while it is painful) it helps to unclog the ducts. obviously thats not an option for you now but you could try the other ones.
RobinG (181.6 days ago) Antibiotics are needed to treat ~ hugs (())
