Pregnancy-poll poll I`m 38 weeks pregnant and have mastitis. Have you ever had it? If so what things did you do to treat it or help with the pain?

I had thrush with my son (similar) They gave me antibiotics and told me not to feed him any more because it was passing to his mouth (this was 4 years ago). Talked to my doc about it this week, and she said that if it happens again to KEEP breast feeding and take antibiotics and warm washcloth :) Keep cleaning the washcloth with baby soap since it`s gentle.

You said you were pregnant. Are you also breastfeeding a baby? I haven`t heard of mastitis in someone who isn`t already nursing. If you are BFing, great. Keep it up. The way to get through it and get better is to keep emptying the breast. As someone else mentioned, hot shower/warm compress, massage the sore part, especially right before and/or during nursing or pumping. Relieve the pressure and the pain will subside. You must have had a fever along with it, or they might have held off on antibiotics. You should begin to feel much better within 24 hours. If you are not much better tomorrow, then call the doc b/c you might need a different prescription. Someone else said not to feed your milk to the baby--That is not correct, unless your baby is sick/underdeveloped enough to require NICU care (even then check w/ the docs), your milk is still the very best food for your baby, even with mastitis. I hope you feel better soon. Oh yeah, Tylenol! Safe for mother and baby and fetus alike.

I had it twice with my 3rd when I when I was breastfeeding him. Both times I had to be put on medication, but I found that hot compresses helped a lot. They said not to let the baby nurse from the breast that it was in, but to pump instead and to throw the pumped milk away. Since you`re not nursing right now, you will most likely have to take antibotics and just rely on them. Hot compresses should help too. Good luck!

I will be starting a course of antibiotics today, I was just looking for ways to sooth my sore boob in the meantime :) Thanks ladies!

you will probably need antibiotics if its progressed to full mastisis which is an infection in the breast usually casued by clogged ducts. you can use warm compresses, steamy showers, and breast massage. usually the best cure is to have the baby keep nursing through it (while it is painful) it helps to unclog the ducts. obviously thats not an option for you now but you could try the other ones.

  2. I`m interesed in getting an innotab for my kids. Are the extra downloads pricey? How is the product as a whole?
  3. Thought they were fixing the problem with the profiles? Mine is now starting to disappear and most of my friends profiles are gone. Is it getting fixed or what because its more than a joke at the moment. Maybe its the ads causing the problems because its the only thing that seems to stay when the profiles disappear.
  4. If you had a `favourable` cervix (started to dilate and soft) did a membrane sweep work for you?
  5. Should I buy my sister a Belly Bandit for her shower? She said that is what she wanted when I asked. I just have a hard time spending that much money on some thing she might niot like. Especially because it was me who put the dumb :) idea in her head!! I bought and used one for three out of my four and loved it...but is it for everyone? Or should I throw down the money to something more practical?
  6. Are your children exposed to two hours or less of TV per day? (This includes when your shows are on and they are awake and around at the same time in the same room)

  7. Just finished making a birthday cake for the first time from our baby girl for her daddys bday tomorrow :o)
  8. Extension of last Valentine question..I should clarify that we are having V-day dinner tomorrow alone but still just the fact that he bought our gifts at the same time at the same place bugs the s-it out of me. He knows I like plants and I`m pretty sure he went to a nice nursey and got me one but the fact is he told me he got his mom a small little plant. OMG I fee like I total b-tch but I feel like telling him I know what he probably got me and I do not want anything that you are giving your mom!! But then he wopuld know I snooped and saw where he went on our checking account.
  9. O.k I know this is a off the wall question..Is it weird and selfish of me to be annoyed that my husband has is giving his mom a Vanetine gift and card tonight when she comes over and wants to give me mine too today? I know I`m probably being sensitive and I feel bad that I made the comment `if you give me the same thing as your mom I`m gonna cry`. He said I should`nt ruin the surprise and I told him I was sorry but I just wanted our Valentines seperate because everything includes his family and it`s a day for lovers. Am I....
