Unfortunately there`s people that have absolutely no regard with the mother`s desires - I had people visit me (with alcohol in hand!!!) the night I came home from hospital. Personally I would NEVER just rock up, especially the night you get home, but some people don`t think... The awful thing is, you feel like crap, you are anxious about having a new baby to look after and the only thing you want to do is find your feet so the last thing you want is visitors but usually people come with gifts etc so you feel like a bitch for wishing they wouldn`t come. Now down the track, I`m like `come over, come over!` I love having visitors but it`s just so overwhelming straight away.

I didn`t want any visitors at all. I`m greedy! My Mom and I don`t get along, my Dad was mad at me because I wasn`t married before having a baby, and we don`t talk to my SO`s family at all. The only people I didn`t care that came to visit was my Grandparents. I`m an only child and we have a REALLY small family so my Grandma and I are close. They came to the hospital to visit. I called Gram at 2:30 in the morning to tell her I had the baby and she was at the hospital by 5 AM waiting to see Alesha lol. My Grandparents are earlybirds though and they had been waiting for 9 months so they were a little impatient. I still don`t like people to visit and I will Not let anyone hold my baby unless its my grandparents. Gram and I are both freaky about germs because she just got done with chemo.

When the mom wants you there :) some want you the day they come home, some a few days later some sometime later :) It really depends on the mom ~ I personally wanted all my visitors the first couple days while I was on my adreniline rush so I had some time then after to myself when my hormones crashed and I was worn out and didnt want visitors.

i think it`s appropriate to visit when the mother is comfortable with it.

i told every1 who wanted to see the baby that they better visit at the hospital because im not opening my door at home until around 2 weeks...i didnt want to worry about cleanin, entertaining, havin enuf food or drinks in the fridge. i wanted to have a routine 1st.

I`m with mskitty - depends on the relationship. I went to the hospital within hours of my nephew being born cos I`m family (we`re a small family too, there weren`t millions of aunties & uncles there!) I also think whether they stay in hospital for a few days means something, I was in hospital for a few days after having my son and I preferred having visitors in hospital where there were set visiting hours so I knew hwen to expect people, and nurses could take my son or interrupt if anything was needed, but at home I felt I had to `entertain` visitors more and I had my visitors when I felt my least confident with being a new parent...

Well I think it depends on your relationship with the person. For family- I`m usually at the hospital and house right away. I had one friend that`s a spaz so we didn`t go until she called, which was like a week or two. But normally I think 3-4 days is good. I was in good shape, after birth so I didnt` mind early visitors!
