i have never had one of these but my friend just had one and she got a bad infection somehow from it and the doctors didnt call her right away and now they are saying she might not be able to have children in the future.. i would just take the pill personally but good luck.. i know what happened to her is rare...

I`ve had mine for 6 months now. Insertion was 3 months pp, and it went in with no pain. I had period like cramping for about 2 days. I do not notice the string and my hubby said he cannot feel it either. I had light spotting everyday for the first two months. I did not gain weight, but I cannot loose weight either regardless of how much I try. I`m not sure if it`s due to the Mirena, but I like to blame it on something! :) PROS: no worries for 5 years, convienant, reliable CONS: can`t loose weight, and initial spotting. I am 95% satisfied with my Mirena. The 5% regret has to do with me not being able to loose weight. Overall, I highly recommend.

i have an iud. i cant tell it`s there and the installation (lol) was a breeze but now i have pregnancy discharge...it`s annoying. but at least i`m not getting pregnant anytime soon...

Um, from what Ive heard it is either GREAT or HORRIBLE. I got my Mirena a month or so about I had my first son back in 2007. Well- the insertion wasnt a big deal (nothing if you can give birth lol) and I didnt have any trouble. I had it in for over a year and had irregular periods, positive-then neg PT`s, I also had chronic UTI`s and odor which was something I have never experienced. My GYNO said that the threads that hang are a mjor breeding ground for bacteria- I NEVER felt clean anymore even though we women know how to take care of ourselves. It made many positions in love making uncomfortable and my hubby could actually feel the wires coming out of my cervix. UGH- well it wasnt for me- but just be sure to pay attn to your symptoms. I got it taken out and conceived the next month. I have heard either horror stories like mine or the exact oppisite. You should give it a try- you dont know - we are all different.

When I had mine put in it was at my 6 week check up and it was a little uncomfortable, but I`m glad I have it.
