nmck (872.5 days ago) Repetition and patience! Good luck! There is nothing wrong with the teacher being unwilling to tie their shoes either. His or her job is to teach them academics. He or she has probably 25 kids in the room. If she is tying shoes for every one of them, when is she teaching? Parents need to realize some things are THEIR jobs. But I also agree with Robin. Nothing wrong with sending them to school in velcro shoes until they are able to tie their own. Also, kids often bring home half-truths of what the teacher actually said. Ask the teacher what the policy is so you are clear.
blondie9504 (872.5 days ago) I learned at age 4 and mastered at age 5 but I was a lazy kid and always chose to get the velcro shoes lol. I didn`t start picking out shoes with strings until I was around 8 or 9 :) Even now, I only tie my shoes like once a month. My stepchildren have all learned around age 4 or 5 also and Alesha wont be wearing shoes for quite a while.
littlemissfatty!! (872.5 days ago) aww poor love he gonna be nervous being under pressure and wont learn half as quick, when i learnt mum taught me then i sat for hours practising, but i dont know how old i was...i wud def have a little word wiv the school about this, they dont sound very encouraging!
hillaryandmikesbaby (872.5 days ago) wow talk about anxiety!! Thats the first thing I thought of... shows the teacher has no background in child psychology.
CNCMOM (872.6 days ago) I was thinking that was a little harsh myself especially since I was never told that he had to learn by a certain time. He was very worried about this when he told me and asked me `MOMMY, how am I going to learn how? I can`t do it!` I hugged him and told him not to worry. I WILL be having a talk with someone come Monday. Thanks ladies!
RobinG (872.7 days ago) and yes, that teacher needs to get a grip ~ time for a meeting for sure :)
RobinG (872.7 days ago) Velcro shoes!!! None of my two could tie til 2nd-3rd grade so I didnt add more stress by making it hard in school. Or just double knot when he puts them on, they will not come untied then in school.
graciesmomma (872.7 days ago) My daughter was five also. This book helped her a lot: http://www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=0812065530
3girls2008 (872.7 days ago) my daughters were about 6 when they learned and they still havent mastered it well (they are 6.5 and 7.5 now), if i heard that any of their teachers would have said that to them i would be having a meeting with the principle because how ego shattering to a little child if they cant master it in a month??? i would seriously consider discussing this with someone!
