I don`t make my own beans, but I know that heat has a lot to do with how things turn out. Have you watched to see when she puts the salt in? I know that when my grandma would make mashed potatoes, she swore by adding the salt right before she would put the potatoes in...that way they soaked up the salt as they were cooking. Makes them much more tasty!

O by the way Adriana no offense to your method because like I said the way you do it is the way my MIL does it and they are bomb, I can`t replicate hers. I think I need to soak them and cook on medium to low. I cook them puppies on high cuz I get anxious to see if `this is the time they come out great` lol. O yea also I fry a piece of white onion in the oil because supposedly this is how you get the flavor. Hmmm..

Im mexican and heard that they come out better when there done in the clay pot thing. I dont remember what theyre called. Just get pinto beans wash them and put them on medium heat. when they are soft put the salt in. and let them simmer for another 10 mins. When theyre done put a frying pan with oil and let it get hot, put the beans in and some of the `caldo`. Let them dry out stirring constantly. I also put some tomates and onions in sometimes and it tastes better. Im not sure if thats what your looking for or not. I think that flor de mayo are better tasting tho.
