the nasal vaccine is a live virus. That is why pregnant and people with respiratory issues can not get it.

the h1n1 vaccine is JUST like the sasonal influenza vaccine. it is made with egg and the virus is NON living. it is just a different strand of virus than the seasonal flu vaccine. just like next years seasonal flu vaccine will be three different strand than the one this year. all seasonal influenza vaccine include the PREVIOUS years` most `popular` or `common` strands. they pick the ones they see more frequently and use them for the following year. the h1n1 is just a different strand. all viruses mutate somewhat. so they will never be the same. the side effects of h1n1 vaccine will be no different than seasonal influenza vaccine. i`m just informing. i`m not for or against.

I received a E mail from my boss forwarded from the NM department of Health asking for the number of nurses, health aids, and anyone who does procedures such as feeding tubes or people who are high risk for direct contact with bodily fluids. Also for numbers of high risk students in the district here.

4 more kids here at one school. See, thats the kind of stuff that drives me to get it. And for anyone whose wondering why swine flu is more dangerous you should be able to go on ABCnews.com and watch the episode where they explain about how it affects the lungs differently than the normal flu. It scared the crap outta me! I`m still sorta on the fence though. :/

If my child were in a daycare or at school I would vaccinate. But I am a SAHM and I am able to watch her closely and I ALWAYS wash our hands as soon as we get in the car, no joke! I just wipe her hands down with an anti-bac wipe or the minute we get home before she can get her hands in her mouth. She`s literally had maybe 2 colds in 2 years and I haven`t had a cold since before I was pregnant. I`m convinced it`s because of my neurotic hand washing! :)

I honestly don`t trust a vaccine that has been out for less than a year now... what would the long term effects from the vaccine be vs the chance of actually getting and dying from h1n1.

3girls, I am so torn too. Jake has been sick with a bad cough and has been using his nebulizer for the past four days. I am watching him soooo closely. Now, my other two kids are sick with colds and I keep checking them for fevers...worried they will make him sicker. For the first time in visiting the pediatrician, my dr. walked in the room with a face mask and plastic gloves on. We have been to his office countless times and I have never seen this practice before. I can`t even get them the regular flu shot...our town of 85,000 is completely out right now. What to do?

The only thing is that anually 46,000 people die from the regualar flu and it`s not on the news because it happens with or without the shot. I dont` know why this is getting so much hype? I`ve heard it spreads faster.. I won`t be getting it. I don`t trust it. I not denying the fact that people are getting sick and dying from it but have they said if those people have gotten the shot or not?.. hmmmm also a vaccine isn't always the right strain- since they change so you could still get sick even though you got the shot.

They have talked about using the schools here for mass vaccine clinics in the future if they are available here. We have had 3 school do a pilot program for flu shots and it went well. We do offer all middle and high schools the required vaccines at no cost to the parents. No taking off work no scheduling.

I`m in toledo ohio and just last week a woman died in columbus, and there are new cases here almost everyday! No way is it a crock! The hospitals where I live are passing out masks and hand sanitizer at the ER DOOR! Where I`m at they said on the news that they will be giving the shots at schools and are hoping to get through 2 schools per day when they start. My boys are in 1st and 3rd grade and they are getting it. If the shot is available to me I`m thinking the rest of us will get it too. I have smoked for many many years and the H1N1 strain wrecks havoc on your lungs, filling them with fluid. This is what a person who dies from it dies from. This vacc is said to be made exactley like the reg flu shot. Yes, I`m scared, I`ve never even had a regular flu shot, but I don`t want to get sick with it either. Some days I say, no, we`re not getting it, but then I see another confirmed case at another school here and change my mind back.

It is hard to know what to do. It is nice to see some good comments and discussions about it though and not all negative saying it is all bull crap and no need for any worry. I am not saying I would get it because I do not know. Not trying to be mean But would you really say it is all a crock to someone who lost a child,mother, sister or anyone to this? There are really good vaccines out I sure would not want my child to suffer from pertussis, meningitis or tetnus that are around and you can become very ill from. Or see any return such as Polio.

thats how I feel its like your damned if you do and damned if you don`t. Get it and nothing might happen.. or you end up effected... get the flu and you or your baby dies.. its so hard to know what the right choice is.

totally torn had bad reactions from flu vaccine in the past so vowed to never get one again, but with lots of the population in this small town getting h1n1 and me being pregnant, i was ready to get the killed, non preservative vaccine because of all the pregnant women dying and in comas etc . now i get emails and lectures from my family that the vaccine causes ms and other auto immune disorders especially if you`ve had reactions to flu vaccines in the past. so i am completely torn, get vaccine .... possibly get auto-immune thing... dont get vaccine possibly die from h1n1 (my dh is a firefighter and last spring came in a lot of contact with swine flu, im totally afraid hes going to bring it home this season or i wouldnt worry since i only leave the house for errands , no work)

Pooka I agree also young healthy children are being hit hard. All that is here is the nasal one and who knows if we will ever see the injection where I am. I am pregnant and have a high risk son son we cant take that one anyway. We did get our flu shot. I do not know if I would get it or not but healthy people are getting really sick. The district I am at has a place for flu for when parents call there child in sick so it can be tracked.

ours isn`t out until Nov .. and it takes 3 weeks to be effective in your body.. so i am torn if I should get it because im due early Dec. I feel bad for people early pregnant though it must be even harder to decide what to do.

I was against it until a perfectly healthy woman in her late 20`s just died here. Now I am stressing out and might get it. I just watched on the news that 2/3rs of the people dying are perfectly healthy woman in their 20`s/30`s ... thats not the norm for the flu. People say the vaccine is too new but really its made the same way as the regular flu shot so I don`t see why people think its some hugely new thing. It`s just a new strain of the flu. So far no one who has gotten it has had adverse effects. I`ve also never heard of anyone dying from the flu shot but it scares me that normal healthy adults are dying from this flu.

I think it`s all a crock. Doctors at my hospital aren`t recommending getting it because it was made so fast that they don`t know if it even works or if it`s safe. Plus I think people are blowing swine flu WAY out of proportion.
