jeff (854.4 days ago) I cloth diaper. I use bummis (covers & prefolds). I luv them. They are WAY cheaper then disposables. The baby like`s them better. They hold poop better. I`m going on holiday for a couple weeks and I`m worried/dreading about having to use disposables while we`re away.
thumper (854.4 days ago) i cloth nappied my son and hated it, i used the tots bots bamboo nappies and it was just a pain, if you forgot to wash then you were pretty stuffed and i didnt find they held all they poop and lots of clothes were ruined, on the eco side of things yes it probably is a little better but by the time youve used detergent, electricity to clean them etc it doesnt work out that much better money wise. i will definatly not be using them again this time round, i would much prefer to spend more time with my baby and use eco disposables, best of both worlds that way, but hands down to the mums who suceeded with cloth, on the plus side the old cloth nappies do make pretty good dusers. oooooh and beware that babies to tend or so my health visitor informed me get nappy rash more frequently with cloth

5against1 (854.5 days ago) every1 already gave the advice i would have given, so im not gonna repeat. just know, after the first few days of getting used to it, it DOES become easier than disposables. i am a single mom of 5 kids, so imagine the laundry i do, and this honestly, is just normally an extra 2 small loads a week. its nothing! (and you really do save tons of $$$, and feel good about not putting all those chemicals on your babys skin!!)
armymom (854.5 days ago) no probably not mskitty. I`m going to introduce the potty very soon. Hope to have him out of diapers before this new baby arrives. He`s only 12 months now and will be 20 months by the time new baby comes. Hopefully it`ll be possible. He`s such an easy baby and never haven`t had any problems when we begin new milestones. I`m being optimistic that potty training will go smoothly. Mskitty.. that`s part of my reasoning for like the brand - Bumgenius. I`ve been reading reviews and it seems to be daddy-friendly. lol.. people who don`t know anything about cloth diapers use this type of cloth diaper just like any disposable diaper.. it`s All in One. No stuffing or extra parts to it. Just don`t throw it away of course. lol
mskitty (854.5 days ago) Hmm..I`m a virgin too and thinking of considering this! With my 1st we got a TON of diapers from his Gma so we just recently had to start buying diapers. She`s 1 on monday. It would save a TON of money. Only thing holding me back is a work full time and can hardly keep up sometimes as it is with just 1 kid. ..So armymom are you going to start cloth diaper your 1st now too?? Just curious.. I`m going to do some research on this. Thanks for bringing up the idea!!
armymom (854.5 days ago) lol amber I believe that`s how it works. you plop the large poo chunks into the potty and then throw the soiled diaper into a bucket of suds until you have time to wash. You`re so funny! Come join the cloth diaper team with me!!
armymom (854.5 days ago) Thank you for all the comments and links. Very helpful. I found a few good deals on ebay and amazon. Thinking I`ll need 18 to start and slowly build my collection from there. I really like what I see and hear about Bumgenius... but I may buy some prefolds for non-wash days. lol.. It`s just too early to order yet.. I would like to wait and find out the sex. Thanks again for all your advice and encouragement.
amber325 (854.5 days ago) what do u do with the poop??? That is what makes me turn my nose up to them...Do you have to scrap it out and flush it? Eww I know I love just wrapping up the diapers and throwing them away.
Dezzi (854.5 days ago) I also do cloth diapers, and i don`t find it that big of an issue either. I use flat diapers which have to be folded (can be a bit time consuming), but as far as washing...not a big deal at all for me.
amber325 (854.5 days ago) SO I am cloth diaper virgin....how do they work? is it the fabric diaper then pee/poop in...and it has a plastic liner around it? is it like a reusable swim diaper thing? I am confused. lol
armymom (854.5 days ago) I wanted to use cloth with my son but everyone around me scared me away from it and told me it would be alot of work, and blah blah blah. Well this is #2 for me.. I know what I`m capable of and what I can handle. I already to a million loads of wash a week so whats a few dirty diapers going to add. I`m a sahm and feel theres no excuse to not have the `extra work`.. many cloth diapering moms have told me its really not alot of extra work so honestly I`m not worried about that. Our biggest reason for cloth is to save money. My husband is deployed for the 4th time next year and while he`s gone I`m moving back with my parents to save money so we can buy our own home when he gets back. My mom will help with washing. LOL
MelissaJoanne (854.5 days ago) It`s not a big job at all. (have you cloth diapered shivon? not looking to start a fight, but I don`t know any cloth diaper-ers that complain about the washing, only disposable users... just curious if you used cloth + didn`t like them because of the laundry).
Anyway... armymom: check out diaperpin.com, it`s a great resource, and gives tons of reviews of different kinds. I personally used prefolds with gDiaper or Bummis covers, and loved prefolds. I do have several friends that swear by their bumgenius all-in-ones though. :-) As far as how many... it depends on how often you want to do laundry, really. Figure out the math of how many diaps you`ll go through per day, times how many days worth you`d like to have . If you buy 18 all-in-one diaps, you`ll be washing them everyday. I have 7 covers, and about 50-60 prefolds and only ever had to wash them twice a week at most before we started EC and going diaper-free.
shivon (854.5 days ago) why u doing it?i know it ends up being cheaper but its such a big job to wash them after, speacially if u have so much other stuff to focus on....
