lol nah it isnt a swear word,like u said, the f word n c word r swear words...but then again if i heard my kids sayin it id have a giggle but i wuldnt b impressed n id tell them its a bad word, so i guess its a personal opinion...but i wulda told the stranger to but out....

It is used more often than not as an insult and not a swear word....as a teacher if a child was to say this at school there would be strong consquences

Yeah it is a swear word to me,, if a kid said it at school they would be in trouble,, i would wash my kids mouth out with soap if they said it...so i would say it is..

It is more of an insult than a swear word. Pretty much the same think as calling someone a `jerk-off` .... It`s more commonly a British slang, my friend who lived in London uses it ALL the time when he is joking with his guy friends, and nobody is truly offended by it, but it is something you might want to be careful using in mixed company when everyone might not get the joke. I went to Wikipedia to get this definition: The term wanker originated from British slang in the 1940s, based on the verb wank.[1] Wanker literally means `one who wanks (masturbates)`. It is normally intended as a general insult rather than as an accusation. It conveys contempt, not commentary on sexual habits. Wanker has similar meanings and overtones to American pejoratives like jerk,[2] and jerk-off. One connotation is of someone self-obsessed or a show-off [3]. Another implication is that the wanker is unable to find a sexual partner.

Ok was talking to a friend and I used the word wanker in reference to something, and I was corrected by a stranger (they were 16) and they said it was a swear word. I apologised because I have never had anyone offended by it so my question is is it a swear word. (My definition of a swear words is the f word etc)
