3blessings (848.8 days ago) you know what....I never thought about the possibility that their family gave thema cell phone...I just figured he bought it himself. That would make sense that his family might have boughten him one, so they can keep in contact. I used to work at a prison and there was one inmate who was homeless and stole food from a grocery store just so he could come to jail and stay warm and have a meal. Those are the people I feel really bad for and are willing to help. I`m all about helping people who are in need, but it just suprised me that this particular person would have a cell phone since he`s always on that particular street corner.
jinx-marcell (849.4 days ago) It`s crazy alright. Maybe he borrowed it or maybe he wasn;t really that broke. I know people say that most beggars are bad people who don`t really need our help, but I still occasionally give a few dollars or a cigarette to one...if they smoke, of course. I guess I kind of go with my gut intuition, even though I know I may be very very wrong..
hunnybunnysmama (849.5 days ago) where I live, if I gave every homeless person $ I`d be broke. Its an epidemic around here and sometimes they have nasty comments if you don`t fork it over. About 6 years ago I got in a shouting match with a homeless guy, heh. I was working 2 jobs had been working something like 76 days in a row without a SINGLE day off and I snapped! He said something snotty when I told him no so I bitched him out. Ever since then I don`t give them anything but my husband will...
hollysnum2 (849.5 days ago) I have given money to this woman and her child, but for the majority of the time I will buy them food if I can afford it. Also there was the homeless man that would sleep under the overhang of our grocery store. He never begged, but would stay away from the door just trying to get out of the rain, or out of the heat. We wold give him food and coats in the winter.
bluejeans (849.5 days ago) If I have it yes I give them money
EmmaReed84 (849.5 days ago) I dont give money, but I do give food. I was in central london once and there was this young girl, she was stick thin and I had just bought a McDonalds and felt so awful I sat down with this girl for a bit and gave her my food. She was so thankful just to have something to eat, she didn`t even ask what it was, she just wolfed it down.
akthel (849.6 days ago) I will buy a homeless person a meal. I don`t like giving money as I wouldn`t want it to possibly be used toward drugs or alcohol.
leelers (849.6 days ago) I just talked with my BF about this last week, I saw a man with a sign that said hungry and homeless. i felt bad for him, we live in arizona and it is still 100 degrees, and it was a long traffic light! I gave him the 3$ I had on me, a granola bar I had in my diaper bag and a cold bottle of water. It got me thinking, I used to see homeless people get money, food, whatever when I was a kid and I haven`t seen compassion like that in years. I know a lot of them do have drug problems, but a lot of them lack the resources and mental stability to help themselves. It has been said we should judge people not by their personal sucesses but how they treat society`s worst off... :)
mimi2b2aboy (849.6 days ago) it depends on their circumstance. the ones with signs i do not give money too. when i lived in washington there was this homeless guy that would go get the throw out flowers from the florists the night before and sell them on the side of the off ramp of the exit to the mall. i would buy flowers from him. the only types of those people i give money to are the ones that arent `begging`. Me and my dh went to vegas back in april and there was this guy in a wheel chair with one leg ragged clothes etc. and he wasn`t beggin or anything just sitting there and everyone was just walking by him. it was like 80 degrees outside. so my husband gave him 10 dollars and as we were giving him the money another gentleman walked up and gave him a hot dog and a 1 ltr mountain dew. i turned to the guy and said good for you and he said good for you too! lol again it depends on the circumstance for me.
3blessings (849.6 days ago) Okay, so I`m at work and decided to go get some lunch and there is a really busy intersection that I have to drive across to get to the Wendy`s. There is always this homeless guy, beggar, bum...whatever you want to call it....standing there. And he`s holding a sign `no money,no food, out of work`. Anywho.....he`s standing there today with his sign and he goes to sit down on the grassy hill right next to the road. All the sudden, he pulls a cell phone out of his pocket and starts talking on it! What`s wrong with this picture? You have no money for food, and you stand along the street for money, but you have a cell phone??? that just really suprised me. I have given him some money in the past, like no more than $20...but I`ll never give him anything again!
