I`ve heard of cases of people successfully fasting for a year. I learned recently that there is a difference between fasting and starvation. During fasting you don`t have hunger after about three or four days but once you start to feel hungry again, it means you`ve started to starve. This can take as little as a few weeks to as long as a year or more because your body has reserves and also your metabolism will drastically reduce during fasting to conserve your reserves. You really do learn all kinds of new stuff every day.

I`m with Roomfor1more-- For religious reasons. The longest was 30 days.

I once considered converting to islam and a friend of mine invited me to celebrate ramadan with her family. We would eat before dawn (before the first prayer of the day) we subsequently fasted all day until after sunset after the 4th prayer of the day. I did it for the duration of ramadan, and well it was the first and only time Ive fasted for religious reasons. I decided not to convert to islam (not because of ramadan or anything just because I didint identify with the religion after trying to follow it for a number of months) It wasent a complete fast per say but a fast none the less....

There are several different types of fasts. For instances, there is a Daniel fast which consists of only fruits and veggies. There is also a dry fast; you have nothing including water. Yes I do fast for spritiual reasons. I fast to get closer to Jesus. Some people may not understand that, but it works. It is a sacrifice, but well worth it. The longest fast I ever did was 21 days..it required much prayer to stay on course, but I was victorious and at the end I felt so good!
