hollysnum2 (16.9 days ago) my DD learned the baby sign language at day care starting when she was 1. She caught on very quickly too!
RobinG (17 days ago) They recognize sooner then acutally doing it so it is very important to keep doing it evenif htey dont do it back. Hunter is autistic and we do it and have done so since he was about 9 months. We do the real signs for milk, more, all done. Those are what we started with. Then as he got older we added thristly, plane, help, open, music, cat, sit, jump. He started doing them back much later but he did know them and he did rely on them to communicate his needs when he couldnt do it :) Best thing we ever did!
moncheri09 (17.2 days ago) If I remember correctly, it takes an average of a few months and depends on the child.
summerisis (17.4 days ago) our daughter makes sentences too `cat`s eating my food` hahaha.
summerisis (17.4 days ago) Be patient. My daughter was *taught* more at six months. She didn`t use it until 1-year. My husband assumed that she wasn`t paying attention but she was. Also, it`s best to use baby signs when the child is able to focus on a book. My daughter is high-strung. We kinda wasted time with the Baby Signs because she really didn`t have the attention span. Be patient and keep it up... it`s awesome when they use `em.
nuggetlovin (17.4 days ago) My cousin could tell her mom all kinds of things by using sign she really started doing it around 5 or 6 months old and by 9 months she`d tell you if she wanted `more, food, drink, no, yes, mama, dada, dog, cat, diaper, cup, bye bye and I love you` She has always been advanced though and walked at 8 months so I don`t know if this is the norm for signing.
heathert (17.4 days ago) Probably started doing it back around 1 also. We started with more, bite, water, yes, thank you, milk, and sit. She does really well with it. Now she will put more and bite together. I have flash cards and you can get videoa also.
5against1 (17.4 days ago) Is around 1 the norm?? I think Im just getting anxious to have her initiate a sign to me.
summerisis (17.4 days ago) my daughter started using her signs for `food, more, thirsty, please, cat, and milk` before she was a year old.
