Baby-poll poll So I am a HUGE fan of baby-wearing. I registered for a sling for my shower and I use it more than my stroller. It`s easy to pack in the diaper bag, leaves my hands free, and I don`t run the risk of running into people (haha). Anyways, I would like to make a wrap like the Sleepy Wrap or Moby Wrap. The measurements are listed on the website and it`s ultimately just a long piece of fabric. Would you ever consider making your own or am I crazy?

Sure! Sounds fairly simple and much more cost effective
No thanks! I'll pay extra to just have it already made and shipped to me.

I too have thought about making my own, my Son is very long and out grew the sling I had bought with in a few weeks so I found the sleepy wrap online (I saw an add on this site actually and so I went to the website lol) and with shipping it was only $45 so I figured I would save myself the trouble of trying to make one (since I am not crafty) and have one sent to my front door with in 10 days LOL. Good luck with making your own.... who knows maybe you will end up creating a new style and your baby wrap will be the next hot thing ;o)

I am not crafty in ANY way, but I actually tried to make my own. It turned out horrible and its used now to cover my bird cage.

I made my own a while back... I got the fabric thats sort of stretchy like jersey... it was awesome! I also made my own pouch sling... wonderful... and ring sling.. super easy... go for it... wear it around the house after you make it and check yourself in a mirror occasionally to make sure baby doesn`t shift... I had made a pouch sling that the measurements were wrong and it was cutting circulation off on his leg... not bad... probably wouldn`t have amounted to anything, but I was able to make the adjustments..

it is cheaper to buy depending on the fabric u use and if u want double layer wrap. i have a popit wrap which is like the moby only a bit softer and it is double layer how ever it is more expensive than a moby. I am also a big fan of baby wearing i wear my 17mth old in a pouch sling all the time. though being 31wks pregnant i dont as much at the moment. i find the good thing about making it your self is u can make it longer or shorter, im not tiny so a slightly longer wrap would be nice but my popit wrap is just the right length.

I made several so we have choices on colours etc when we go out. It is very easy. 5.5 meters in length with tapered ends to make tying easier. and approx 20 inches wide. :) have fun

Can I admit something stupid- I am all for whatever a mom wants to do- and I know it has got to be so much easier being hands free and all but I have this ridiculous fear that I may fall forwards and despite all my attempts to cover baby or land on my hands that I would end up falling on my baby if I had it strapped to my chest. Please dont think Im being silly. Hubby bought me one of the straps to try when our princess arrives but Im a little scared. Whats your experience have u ever almost fell?

I bought a Moby wrap, and if I had known then what I know now, I would have just made it myself! It doesn`t really need to be quite that long either. I would say try making one yourself!

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
