Last thought, of course it`s cute when they start off calling you on your first name, and whatever other names they hear people call you, but once they are old enough to understand what title belongs to whom, they should definitely START using the desired title which is definitely MOMMIE for me.

Nooo. I cannot imagine that. Besides, every kid WANTS somebody to call mommie. I mean, if i had to call my mom by her first name i think i would have seen her as just another family member and not like, you know my MOTHER. Besides, i would have really been angry with my mother to have allowed that with me, because i probably would have wanted to call her mommie (like all my friends call THEIR mommies) and would feel stupid to start saying mommie all of a sudden after a few years. Besides, a title gives structure, order and establishes authority. Would u have felt the same kind of respect for your teacher or Professor if you could call him BOB, or Tom??? It`s cool to be the cool parent, but there are certain things that will plain bite u in the bum when those kids goes into teenage years. Keep it mum! Lol, Mwah!

my daughter calls me `Mommy Nikki` if someone spends a lot of time with us that calls me Nikki. Sometimes she calls me `Babe` like her Dad. I don`t mind it, she`s just trying out my different names/titles. I wouldn`t want her to call me by my first name consistanly but am totally okay with her testing it out.

noooo. my kids never went thru that phase. my sister on the other hand wanted my kids to call her by only her name because she wantedto be the `cool aunt`. this was over a decade ago, and she regrets in now.

I think it is disrespectful for a child to refer to a parent by any name other than Mom or Dad (or variation). Just as i expect my children to address my friends as Ms, Mrs. and Mr., or they will use Sir or Maam. JMO

all kids go throught the phase of using first names, like when we are going out and i shout my partners names to hurry him up, my son starts calling him geoff too, my brother apparently did the same to our dad

My 2 oldest girls went through a phase when they called me by my first name. For some reason my middle girl has given me the name `Johnnie` I know who she is talking to. It is just a phase though.
