juels101 (822.8 days ago) I am of doukhobor Russian heritage. The doukhobors were against fighting the war and left the country because of persecution. It is a Christian sect, and they traditionally don`t eat meat. These arent all things I practice, just some background for you haha. A few traditional foods are Vereniki, just like perogies except the dough is much softer, and either cheese or potato is used for filling. Pedahi is a very soft baked dough with either potato, cheese, bean, beat, pea.. lots of fillings. My favorite though is the doukhobor borscht, it has no meat, and though beats are used while cooking you take them out and it just gives it a light pink color, it`s polar opposite to Ukranian borscht. That`s all off the top of my head ^_^

luvbeingamom (823.5 days ago) My mother`s family is Jewish, the `traditional` food that passed down is Matza Ball soup, Potato lakas (spelling?) and Matza Meal lakas. I am not sure how traditional that is but that is the only food that we are all are willing to eat. My father`s family is mainly of english heritage and it is SO far removed from where they are now that nothing has been passed on, well except the fatty southern foods that they have all come to enjoy :-)
