In my family we have celiac. The easiest way for me to explain is an allergy to gluten. Gluten is in everything! My mother found out she had this about 7 or 8 years ago. Around when she turned 50. Though when you look it up, it says only younger children. The thing with this disorder is that it can cause a lot of other issues as well. Like it is linked to thyroid issues, stomach issues, swelling from retaining liquid, prevents you from absorbing vitamins and nutrients, which in itself can cause pain and other issues. Now i am not sure of everything she said, or if that is even a full possibility for her. However, she may want to start by cutting out certain things out of her diet and start there. There is a simple blood test to test for this particular condition. I really hope your friend can find some answers soon.

These are the symptoms she has sent me. All of the doctors have no idea what`s wrong with her, don`t run the appropriate tests and just pass her off onto another doctor. She has had, Swelling (Arms/legs/hands/feet), Heartburn no reflux though, Rib bone pain(like internal, almost like heartburn in your bones), Getting sick all the time, Bleeding, nose/throat/spotting/stool, Sore spine/back muscles, Joint pain, Severe abdominal pain with no diarrhea or constipation Severe pain in spleen/gallbladder (They told me I had a gallbladder attack and sent me home August 07) Almost a stabbing pain, feels like my ribs are rubbing together.....Her platelets have also gone down to 15000 and she was in ICU almost dead for a long time. It is absolutely ridiculous they are keeping her in sooo much pain. She can barely take care of her 2 year old son. She also gained 112lbs with him, developed pre-eclampsia and delivered him at 32 weeks. She is a SMALL girl and didn`t eat bad during her pregnancy, she eats so well and still gains so much weight from swelling. I know nobody can truly help over the internet but if anyone has a hunch or knows somebody who has had something similar please message me. Or comment. Or even just send your prayers. I wish we had a better health care system here. She was so healthy up until 2005-2006 and since then has been getting continually worse.
