smiling politely (815.7 days ago) WHAT????? hairdressers in the US dont get paid by the salon, and have to live off the tips? why on earth would anyone ever become a hairdresser? amybe thats why they are so busy-as the other post said, because there isnt enough of them because their conditions are so awful. im really stunned by this. wow.
hunnybunnysmama (815.9 days ago) I`m surprised at the results. I thought 20% was standard...
canadababy (816 days ago) For $75 I wouldn`t tip more than $5, personally. Sure they have to pay their own way at the salon but everywhere I go I have to book an appt way in advance and it`s always busy, they`re not hurting!
brendalee (816 days ago) Mumbo the stylists that don`t own the salon, just work there...they have to pay the salon owner to be able to work there. Part of the money they make goes to them, most of the rest goes to the supplies.
armymom (816.1 days ago) my sister is a hairdresser.. she says 20% is the appropriate tip.. she does not get paid by the salon.. all the money she charges goes toward the color (which is very expensive btw), supplies, and rent of her booth. She works in a salon where it has many seperate personal rooms and the hairstylists have to rent their space. I guess if you go somewhere like a chain and they DO get paid salary or wages from the salon it would be different but alot of hairdressers have to pay to work... like a stripper kindof. lol
amber325 (816.1 days ago) I will give about $5...Hell I can barely aford the $75 (which is a JOKE in itself!)
larasmommy (816.2 days ago) I give a $10 tip and I think it`s appropriate for a partial highlight and a haircut
brendalee (816.2 days ago) *blinks at screen* I`d NEVER tip $10 or less. hair dressers live off their tips. Think about it...they have to pay for their own supplies, they have to pay the salon to be able to work there...I give her $20 tip when I get my highlights.
