I`m with 13yrsapart, my parents swore in front of us as we were growing up but none of us would ever dare to swear in front of our parents even now lol. DH and i both at time`s have swore in front of your children but never at them. They are now 18, 13 yrs and 14mths. We have never heard them swear and hope never to in the future. Children will here the words from many places and as with many things as long as us, as parents can teach our children right from wrong we surly cannot go too wrong.

Anything he would get in trouble for at school. We do not tolerate verbal bullying in our home so I try to inforce it. Damn, stupid come up often. And of course all of the above That obviousy most if not all of us want our kids to be respectful of others.

My DS is very well mannered and knows which words are right & wrong, so i dont see the need to `Dis-allow`certain words in my home, after all `Freedom of speach` and all that

For us it is stupid, funky or anything like what the ......! That is too close the using the word! I am sure as they get older more words will be added. Thanks for sharing ladies ;-)

I swear in front of my children, however they are raised to know that those are grown up words and when they get older they can use them how they see fit. I feel more comfortable with my kids hearing this from me than some other child at daycare or school and then thinking that it`s ok. Some do not think my way works, but my 13 yr old is the most respectful, well mannered teenager you`ll ever meet! My mother HATES that I talk like this in front of my kids, but I have to remind her that they are my children and I will raise them as I see fit. I feel like if my kids where to see me uncomfortable with something being said, they will not be comfortable talkin to me about it. (like sex or race) I know that this technique is not for everyone, but it works for us. And I`m sure this will spark some comments that I am a terrible person, but that is your right. If you feel that you need to jusdge me, thats ok. I just hope that you have understanding as well!! Take care everyone.

we dont allow bad language or stupid or any nasty words to put another person down though i will admit my son cant say truck he calls them fucks but this is a speach issue as he has never heard that word in our home and usually he ays it when pointing to a truck or bus, though rather embarrassing when in the post office queue

No racial slurs, no conescending words, no derogatory words for body parts etc, nothing sexist etc. I am VERY particular about what is said aloud in my home.

b/c i dont believe in forcing another language on my kids if they want to learn when they get older that fine but i wont teach them when they are little b/c they have no choice if they want to learn it or not. and yes i know i have thought English but thats the only way i can communicate with them i speak English,Italian,and German but only English around my kids i also dont let them watch dora or deiago they speak Spanish and crazy annoying but dont get me wrong it has nothing to do with race b/c i am adopted by a black guy my niece and nephew are Mexican so its not about that its just about forcing another lang on my kids. O i am with all the moms below but i consider them swear words so i didnt even think to put them lol

we dont use the words stupid, jerk, moron, crap, and gay, faggot etc.. i try to keep anything negitive out of the home. the only thing ive heard from neighbor`s kids that i had to correct was them saying `crap` and `stupid` the occassional `jerk` my daughter only says `stupid` frequently and its to the point where if she keeps saying it im going to dock her a quarter from her piggy bank for it.

retart, faggot, and gay. when im around middle school aged kids, this is ALLLLL i hear outta their mouths. and its never used in he right context! sum1 trips a kid. then the kid fights back w ` ur such a faggot!!` or `ur sooo gay!` lol, i was shoppin w my 12 yr old n his friend. i pointed out a shirt n said i liked it for him. his friend goes, `that shirt is gay!`, so i said `that shirt likes other boy shirts??`, n they all thought that was funny. but i was trying to make my point of how they alllways use it incorrectly..i will never let my kids use it like that because i do not want them thinking it is a negative thing or an insult!

I won`t even type them because I think they are so awful, but any sort of `hate` language against people who are different from ourselves whether because of race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. NOT allowed in my house!
