I had a walking epidural and was fine right after :)

I had an epi four times and with each it took about an hour to be able to walk.

my legs were a little heavy but i was able to get up and walk into the shower about 1 hour later both times!

I could move my legs but I couldn`t feel them. It took a full 4 hours to be able to feel them and I still (2 months later) have a baseball-sized spot that I can`t feel superficial sensation, only deep pressure.

I think it depends on wether you had a walking epidural (low dose) or not as well as your physical tolerance to the anaesthetic. Some people get the epidural and it doesnt seem to do anything, others get it and they feel like they have no legs.
