military~mommy (798.8 days ago) The mirena has homones just like the pill, it just releases them directly into the uterus so the hormone level is far less that with the pill. The paragard (copper) IUD kills sperm on the way in (properties in copper kill sperm) and if a swimer did get past the IUD (rare but it happens)something in the copper changes the lining of the uterus to be inhospitable to implantaion. Hope this helps.
JMendez (798.8 days ago) I had an IUD placed last month (Paragard) and when I was talking with the dr doing it, he said it`s supposed to prevent the sperm and egg from doing their job, and if they do end up meeting up and doing their job, it`s supposed to prevent it from implanting. He said that if they do meet up, it could end up being an etopic (sp?) pregnancy. I`m not sure how the Mirena IUD works, as that one has to do with hormones, but the Paragard is hormone free.
EandTsmum (799.1 days ago) OMG how scary!! This is a bit off topic but a wife of my husbands work friend had a c-section years ago with her first child. She was sick for 10+ years complaining of severe abdominal pain and was on loads of prescription drugs. They did multiple scans and exploratory surgeries but found nothing and eventually doctors started to hint to her that she was faking. DHs work friend took multiple days off work over the years to help look after their LO and was not very popular because of this. Eventually she developed depression too. Just recently they did another surgery and found a sponge they`d left inside her from the c-section. It`s also made her infertile. Man, I`d be suing the arse off of them. Scary.
