nmck (776.8 days ago) At that age, my son slept a lot in the day too, but I had him sleep in the living room in a pack-n-play with lights on, blinds open, and the TV or music on for background noise. Then night time (Which we started at about 8 pm) he would go to his room in the dark with just a night light and some white noise. I think that even if they sleep in the day with lights, noise, etc it is not as deep of a sleep as they get in the quiet dark room at night.
ladykilla421 (776.9 days ago) Sounds like your little one is confused when it comes to day and night. Your best bet would by to try and space her naps more and although she next to impossible to wake you should try and shorten the time she`s napping for. Changing an infants routine is something you do over time so gradually limit the time she naps by 15-20 minutes or so at a time as well as spacing her naps more by 10 or so minutes at a time. At night when she appears to be the most wired try to set the mood for sleep, dim the lights, dont play with her or offer any kind of stimulation and although it can seem mean dont pick her up or give her any indication that this is any other time than sleep time. Personally I do not pick up my daughter when its bed time nor do I talk to her/stimulate/play with her, I even try to avoid eye contact, and she usually gets the point that its bed time. I guess she doesnt see any point in remaining awake if there is clearly nothing going on. If I were you I would also abstain from diaper changes after its her bedtime unless she has pooped. I do not change my LO after bedtime unless she has pooped as Ive noticed that it `wake her up more` eventhough she isint sleeping. With any change it takes a while but if you stick to your guns and make the change as gradually as possible your LO should adjust in time! Hope this helps!
EllaG (777 days ago) My LO is almost 5 weeks old, and has set herself into a fairly decent routine, with one problem. 8/9ish in the morning, she wakes, is changed & fed about 6 oz (fine). Goes back to sleep by 9.30-10.30 for about 3-4 hours, wakes and repeats. Then at 9ish in the evening, she is WIRED. She will take around 12 oz between then and 1am. She will have 2-3 dirty diapers in this 4 hour slot and nap for 10 minutes here and there. Eventually around 1.30 she starts to settle and is asleep enough to put to bed at 2. Then she`ll sleep until her 8-9 feed. Its next to impossible to wake her once she decides to sleep - noise, light, movement, being undressed nothing bothers her.
