My 13 month daughter loves to read books. She will grab a book, climb into my lap and expect me to read to her. After about the 7th book, we try to redirect her to another activity. We also take her to a paint your own pottery type of place. For about 10 dollars and a $5 studio fee we pick out a plate or coffee mug, get a few sponges with paint and let her go to town. Encourages creativity and let`s us make a mess outside of the house.

My 11 1/2 month old loves her rocking horse that sings when you press the ear, loves little activity centres with buttons that light up and play music. She loves rattles and loves rolling balls around. I`d say her favorite toys light up and play music. I just sit on the floor and play with her toys with her.

I would finger paint with my son. but when he was little like that, we would use pudding mix, like chocolate and banana, that way if he decided to try it, it would be ok. We always had a lot of fun doing it together.
