EllaG (751.1 days ago) FGEjzc - my boobs have apparently not heard of supply and demand. The first 4 weeks I was feeding about 20 hours a day, it seemed. The poor thing was always hungry and I was still giving her bottles to supplement. She even had to go on the hungry baby formula at 4 weeks as she was taking up to 14 oz of formula in one sitting.
smiling politely (751.3 days ago) i still, at 18 months, have a let-down form the non feeding side. i just tuck a nursing blankie (or flannelet baby blanket) into my bra on the other side to catch spills. some mothers experience it the whole time and others dont after the first few weeks. i would either hold a container to the other side, if you cant get a nursing shell, and want to save that milk, or pump form that side while baby feeds from the other. many women find it easier to pump while feeding, as the baby will make it easier to pump.
canadababy (751.8 days ago) I would just use a nursing pad on the other side, if I didn`t I`d be spraying everwhere and that lasted for months :) I've never heard of nursing shells before. Maybe when you're out you can just use a pad and throw it out, when you at home or somewhere comfortable use the shell to collect the milk?
EllaG (751.8 days ago) FGEjzc - occasionally I will pump that side, particularly if I`m feeling very full, but most of the time I just collect the milk in the breastshells and give it to her later. With my hungry baby, there is no such thing as `extra` milk! She`ll empty both sides (or feed from one and have the leaked/pumped milk from the other) and still need a formula top up of about 5oz hungry baby formula.
EllaG (751.9 days ago) I was under the impression that this, along with leaking from the `free` side, would settle down after a few weeks - its now 8 weeks later and when feeding, I leak about an ounce from the `free` side and experience let down about 3 times between feeds. Thankfully the health care visitor recommended breast shells early on, but it makes feeding very awkward! Can anyone offer any help/advice?
