KristinaA (749.9 days ago) My son is 4 months. I am trying to wait for 6 months to follow the advice of the Dr. and conventional wisdom but the following factors may contribute to us begining early: 1) my breast milk supply is running out and it may help us stretch it out a bit 2) my son may have reflux and the Dr said that the oatmeal is a little heavier and may stay down in his stomach better 3) The Dr said the Oatmeal will help him poop more frequently which may make him a little more comfortable 4) the doctor said that the only real reason they tell parents to wait until 6 months is for concern over allergies, but they are finding that they`ve been over diagnosing allergies and it`s only a very small concern right now, especially since my husband and I don`t have allergies and our son has not had any reaction to breast milk or anything that has touched his skin (bath soap, laundry detergent, etc) and 5) my husband is anxious to start feeding something other than breastmilk. For now, my plan is to only introduce the pepcid my Doc recommended for 7 days, and then evaluate where we are, but I`m really concerned that we may not get another 7 days out of my breast milk supply. I am down to zero back up supply in the freezer and no matter how many times I pump or for how long during the day, I`m not making enough to fill his bottles for daycare anymore.
T3POandR2D2 (750.3 days ago) We waited until he wanted food. Until he was able to sit up and grab for it, and then put it in his mouth and chew. He was almost 8 months.
.punky. (750.6 days ago) BM (or formula) is the best for them till a year. Anything before that is just for practice and exploring. Anything before 6 months and you run a higher risk of developing food allergies :)
jenl645 (750.6 days ago) I did it at 4 months. My doctor said between 4 - 6. He was ready. He kept looking at what we were eating so I started giving him baby jars.
stacky (750.7 days ago) My doc wont let us yet due to too many alleries. She is 6 months today..so hopefully soon she can eat some solids:)
rosye13 (750.7 days ago) We are waiting. I was told that before 6 months if you start giving solids then you`re just taking the place of breastmilk/formula that they need. So we decided to wait. No reason to rush it.
Ready4No2 (750.7 days ago) I didn`t think it was necessary or that she was ready. Plus, now that I`ve introduced (she`s almost 8 months), it`s a LOT more work, and I miss the days of not having to think about what to feed her that day :-) Plus, I personally believe solids at this point are for exposure to tastes and textures, not nutrition, so I always worried (still do) that she would start skipping feedings. Mine also refused jar/mush and we`re feeding her table foods. Whatever we eat (mostly), she eats.
bexnz (750.7 days ago) my daughter is 5 1/2 months, ive tryed her on solids but always notice a change in behavior, sore tummy, and trouble doing poo`s, so we going to wait a bit longer yet, i just dont think there bodys can handle it to early. my oldest child didnt start solids till 7 months.
amber325 (750.7 days ago) we waited to 6-7 months DD refused all JAR/mush foods so we went to table foods.
hotpotaaaaato (750.7 days ago) With both my girls they were EBF, and all they really need is breastmilk plus it`s the best thing for them, so we just waited until they actually seemed to NEED a little more in their diet to keep them full. Neither of my girls actually had a significant amount of `solids` until about 8 months... but we started introducing them at 5-6.
shesxchaotic (750.8 days ago) We are waiting to give our son solids and he is EBF so I`m wondering who else is waiting. :)
