jenakers`s poll Show results | Hide results

Baby-poll poll Toddler freak out. Okay ladies, please share your stories if you have been `here` before so, I don`t feel so alone. I have a cautious 2-1/2 year old. He`ll stand back a bit, doesn`t want to climb on the playground equipment. Well I got him swimming lessons for 9AM 30 minutes from my house. We went for the first time last week. He was fine *sort of* he was cautious, not into what were learning but okay with the lesson and after the lesson we played for an hour and had fun. WELL we just got back from the swimming lesson from HELL. All the way there he was excited nad couldn`t wait to get in the pool. I didn`t make him do anything but, bob around in the water while 6 month-3 year olds were happily enjoy their lesson. He clung to me screaming `NO! NO!` No matter what I did to calm him he was like trying to hold a cat in the pool. It was SO embarrassing! Everyone was looking at us like WTH? I am a calm adventurous person and my son..was a spaz. I took him to the side of the pool, calmly talked to him to no avail. He didn`t even want to play after. He was screaming for his daddy. PLEASE tell me your toddler has been completely irrational about something that left you speachless or embarrassed the heck out of you. I would have thought to myself `what does that mother do to him?` UHG sorry so long, frusterated.

Yes, my child has made an irrational spectical of us.
I have not had this happen, maybe he is just a spaz?
That's nothing...here's my story...
Been there and this helps.....

It`s called a tantrum :O). They have them at this age and it`s perfectly normal. Next time if he doesn`t want to get in the water perhaps try sitting on the side of the pool and the two of you watch the other kids having fun in the water? But I`ve certainly had my fair share of Sophie screaming on the floor of the library, store, park while I stand next to her ignoring it. You`ll get evil looks, pity looks and (my favorite) people telling your child how mean mommy is for not giving them what they want. Ignore the evil looks...they`re just being grateful it isn`t their child doing a banshee impression.

My son had a huge tantrum in toy`s`us once lol, we had to walk past a play area to get in the store and he wanted to go in there and play, I said no we will go in the store and play after, so he starts screaming, kicking, crying, everyone was looking lol, so we went in toys`r`us and he was still going on, so the only thing I could do was sit him in the corner and let him hacve his tantrum, he threw himself on the ground kicking the floor I just kinda waked off and left him there and was watching him but he couldn`t see me, the looks I got HOLY!!! anyways after about 5 mins I went up to him and said are you ready to calm down now?? and he was we hugged then he was fine :) we all go through this, he still does it now lol, oh and after we left the store we did go and play :)

Your story made me laugh, because I have so been there. I`ve found that sometimes when Gracie is upset about something else (tired, uncomfortable, hungry, sick, etc) she tends to act ridiculously and spaz about things that shouldn`t be a big deal. I think she kind of projects her stress and anger onto something else because she just doesn`t know quite how to express herself. Don`t feel alone though! :) We`ve all been there.

Thanks, Amber, I didn`t give in. We finished the lesson. I stayed calm so as to not show he was getting to me. Tried to get him to play after and when we left I didn`t make a big deal of it. Just got him dressed and in the car. I told him I was disappointed that he didn`t try to have fun and swim, that was it. I was hoping for more of a response from other moms but, maybe it`s just me and my kid. Maybe this is a bigger problem then I thought. Seeing the poll results..I`m at a loss. Hopefully he`ll be fine with it next week.

lol, any mother with a todler had been there! I promise it only gets worst. Children throw fits and spaz out, its natural and they will grow out of it. I try not to give into my son when he throws a fit, I dont want him to think crying and acting crazy will get him his way- then he would do it just to get his way.

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
