love.nora (727.5 days ago) Like with my first I tried to BF. I end up with huge engourged breasts to the point I cant get the swelling down. I tried to pump but my nipples get rock hard and you cant pump when they are like that. I also saw a lactation specialist so it is not like I didnt try. So there is the answer to that qn, and no worries I take no offence to others opinions :D I think he is a sucker and loves to do so. I try to give him a paci if I feel he is just in it for sucking purposes. I think he is going through spurts too cause during most feedings he will only take 2-3oz every 2-3 hrs.
RobinG (727.7 days ago) I am not positive but would guess that BF babies graze more (it is good to keep milk flow going I assume) at times and eat less oz more often. Common to hear a baby nursing every 2 hours for ex and a baby formula fed the same age etc may eat more like every 3-3.5 hours. Formula holds them longer then breast milk so they eat more less often where BF babies eat less more often. I do agree that not all BF moms are snobs and I am sure she will too, she is probably just venting because those who FF are consistantly criticized about it on this site and it comes acrossed that way at times even though we all know that it isnt the case. I would hope that those of you sharing here who BF would also agree that her post was inappropriate and nothing to do with this poll.
avaann (727.7 days ago) couldn`t agree wit you more!!
canadababy (727.7 days ago) avann, I breastfed for 11months and no way do I think all BFing mom are snobs, they`re a very small minority ... I`m sorry if you took it that way. It`s moms that think BFing is the only way to go and make FFing moms feel bad about themselves that I term `breastfeeding snobs`. Totally innappropriate.
avaann (727.7 days ago) it`s breastfeeding mother`s like her that give the rest of us breastfeeders a bad name. i would never offer my opinion about berastfeeding or formula feeding.and to canadababy-please don`t stereotype us as snobs. i promise a lot of us are really nice and never judgemental. LOL. for some it`s a choice and for other`s they don`t have the choice due to medical reasons or beliefs. love.nora - i think you are doing an excellent job and your baby will know when he is full and isn`t full!
LKLmama (727.7 days ago) Is 8 oz normal for a 1 month old in a hour though??? eek
canadababy (727.8 days ago) That is so incredibly rude...Why do breastfeeding snobs think they`re so smart? love.nora, I say he`s just perfect :) I might offer the paci like Robin said, our DD had a strong sucking urge too, she had a paci from day 1.
domsmom2009 (727.8 days ago) nevertooyoung19- BF has nothing to do with this question and really it`s none of your buisness.
RobinG (727.8 days ago) nevertooyoung19 ~ that is a question that not only is none of your business but not anything to do with this poll. She asked about formula intake, not BF advice. So you had no right to add that rude jab in there ~
LakeErieMomma (727.8 days ago) I agree with EandTsmum, it is no one`s business why she isn`t breastfeeding and it has nothing to do with her question! love.nora, I would say he might be going through a growth spurt and that seems like an okay amount. As long as he`s not throwing up after eating I wouldn`t say that he`s getting too full. He just sounds like a big eater, maybe a pacifier would help soothe him between feedings?
EandTsmum (728 days ago) nevertooyoung - It`s none of your business why she is not breastfeeding!! I`d say it`s just a growth spurt.
domsmom2009 (728.1 days ago) It`s probably a growth spurt. I would not start pablum now... he`s too young.
RobinG (728.1 days ago) Eating that amount in a feeding is normal, babies eat what they need and he is showing he needs it. If he is drinking 5-8 oz and every feeding is every hour then yes it is to much but if he is drinking that amount at each feeding and has 2-4 hours between feeds he is doing perfectly ~ :) Offer him a paci to see if he is just wanting to suck. I wouldnt give him anything to fill him up but formula :) It is the only thing he needs.
love.nora (728.1 days ago) My almost month old son loves to eat. He is going through stages where he is eating upwards of 5-8 oz of formula in an hr. He isnt getting sick or nothing and he is having regualr if not more than regualr diaper changes. I know pablum isnt for new babies but is there anything out there that I could use to help fill him up better? Boys seem to be never ending pits :D
