canadababy (716.6 days ago) Working out can affect your breastmilk, but it didn`t for me. I started exercising when my DD was 6weeks old, I read that the same lactic acid that can give you a muscle cramp can be transferred to your breastmilk in the 30min after working out, giving it an odd taste your LO may not like. But, I`ve BF`d during an exercise class and right after an exercise class and never had an issue, I wouldn`t worry about that unless it came up :)
shesxchaotic (716.6 days ago) Hahaha! Too funny! Yeah that does make sense haha
MelissaJoanne (716.6 days ago) http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/mom-exercise.html More of what I was (poorly) trying to imply - the taste of you, rather than the milk itself. Like... sweaty post-workout mom might taste bad right after you work out (your skin, rather than the milk itself).
shesxchaotic (716.6 days ago) Thanks ladies! I know alot of women who do I just scare myself reading things online I think lol.
lovelee (716.6 days ago) Hey, I`m a fitness instructor and also a mother of four. Working out can affect your milk supply if you do not keep hydrated and thats about all. Just make sure you drink plenty of fluids and you will be okay. In regards to the `taste` thing, although it is still commonly thought that working out could change the taste of your milk, it doesn`t, thats an old wives tale. So its good news, go work out!!
jessica-rn (716.6 days ago) ive never heard that either... but i started working out at about 6 weeks and went to the gym 4 to 5 times a week. as far as i know it never had any affects on my milk or my EBF daughter. i continued working out and nursing for about 13-14 months!! i would think it cant hurt bc working out is good for your body ....
MunchieAndScrunchie (716.7 days ago) I never heard that but I didnt do any research before I started going to the gym. I go after my DD is down for the night anyways so I naver ran into any problems!!
MelissaJoanne (716.7 days ago) It may affect the taste of your milk immediately after working out (like, for a half hour afterward or so), and your baby may find the taste unpleasant. Feed your son right before you work out, just in case he doesn`t like the taste right after you work out. My daughter has never cared - I used to lead a mama/baby fitness class with her, and she had no problem nursing before during or after. :-p
