3rdTry (711.4 days ago) My brother has OCD and doesn`t have any problems like the ones listed. I knew a boy who has autism and it sounds similar, my mil also works with kids who have autism and she thinks it might be that as well.
Lookalike (711.5 days ago) It sounds like autism to me too. There`s a lot of work involved with the autism spectrum, but once you understand the certain fixations and methods of soothing which are very different than the average person, things tend to work themselves out. I wish her the best, I know it`s hard. If it is autism or asperger`s syndrome, one of the books I`ve used with families is `all cats have asperger`s` or something like that. Recently the movie Temple Grandin came out, it can offer a little more (simplified) insight. Most of all I hope she gets an answer.
Lou-Li-Ro (711.7 days ago) More than OCD? OCD is huge. Especially if it is a severe case. My bro has it for years. It has ruined many of his childhood and adolescent years. I have no idea what is wrong with the kid you are talking about though; could be OCD or something else. If he gets very upset about these things then definitely the mother should get it checked out.
alugo (711.8 days ago) I just wanted to say that I was like that at that age - and actually my phobia was grass and carpet - lucky we had hardwood! My parents could tell you lots of stories. Just wanted to share as I am a completely normal and healthy, disorder free person. :)
LakeErieMomma (711.9 days ago) I`m with Robin, I have a 5 year old that has Asperger Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder and Anxiety. I would think it is a sensory issues with the carpet and grass. My 5 year old hates the feeling of bare feet on anything but our hardwood floors, carpet drives him nuts. He won`t eat food with his hands, he uses a fork to eat chicken fingers because he doesn`t like being dirty at all. I would look into an evaluation. There are great occupational therapist that can help with this kind of things.
Aiona (711.9 days ago) One time my little 3 yo cousin was staying with us for an afternoon, and we had alphabet soup for lunch. He was terrified! He wouldn`t touch it. Later when we dropped him off at his house, he showed me his bedsheets. The theme was alphabet monsters. I made a mental note to never buy my kids anthropomorphic alphabet sheets.
RobinG (712 days ago) My first thought was sensory ~ Sensory and OCD fit with autism spectrum disorder, Sensory processing disorder and others. She needs to have him see a developmental pediatrician in addition to her doc. They specialize in this over the regular Ped. Encourage her to buy the book Your out of Sync child ~ its a great book for sensory issues :)
maimai (712.1 days ago) My first thought was also autism, having taught autistic kids (11-16yrs though, so no idea about 2 yr olds). I would say check it out with the doctor.
charliebaby (712.3 days ago) I wouldn`t think too much into it, when I was only about 2 I was petrified of my grandma when she took her glasses off, and I also had a phobia of the spaces between the slats when walking on a jetty. I don`t have autism nor OCD, but even now, 30 years later, I have an inherent fear of drowning and of heights, particularly where I can see beneath me (ie glass floors). It may be something that he`s associated with fear, like a dream or something else so perhaps just comfort him and watch for any other indicators, but try not to label him as being autistic if he is yet to be professionally diagnosed.
shesAWKWARD (712.3 days ago) i waas thinkin the same cause my nephew has autisum and he has BAD otc too. i hope the best for her family.
Alexandria- (712.3 days ago) I thought the same thing. She doesn`t think so and i hope that he doesn`t, but i told her that she should ask the doctor to do some tests just to make sure, because she might be able to nip it in the butt before something extreme developes.
mamag07 (712.3 days ago) That was my first thought too...Autism. I work with high school students who has Autism and they often have fears that we don`t understand or think are different. Also if things change in their daily schedule, the shoes, then they `freak` out. I would maybe suggest she asks the dr about it maybe being that. Just keep in mind there are different levels of Autism.
