MamaTex (708 days ago) This happened with my son. He wore Robeez for months without a problem but when we put on real soled shoes, he freaked. It changed in a matter of a day. We took him out to our ranch where the ground is rocky. He LOVES being outside. First we let him try to walk without the soled shoes. He whined because the rocks hurt his feet. Then we put on the soled shoes...and he walked just fine...he realized that the new shoes didn`t make his feet hurt. Ever since that day, he hasn`t fussed a bit about wearing soled shoes. EditDelete
military~mommy (708.3 days ago) The daycare I had my daughter in for the first 8 months required all babies over 6 months to wear soft soled shoes and over 12 months to wear `walking` shoes. They did it to avoid shoe issues later on I supose. There were many good things about that daycare, I loved all the care givers but I removed my daughter as soon as I had another option because in addition to the shoes thing they had many many rules that I did not agree with and because said daycare was pretty mush the only option for Americans they could be as demanding and unaccomodating as they wanted. But the shoes were a good idea... EditDelete
LKDream (708.3 days ago) Just this morning yes, my DH put nice shoes on for our DS. He didn`t trow a fit, but he didn`t make a move. He don`t want to walk or stand with the shoes on.....hahahaha, it is hilarious. EditDelete
MummyLJ (708.6 days ago) Thanks ladies. It seems logical enough- he`s never worn them, and now they`re there and heavy and uncomfortable lol I`d just never heard of a baby completely freaking out about it! I knew the one about babies not liking grass with bare feet lol, but never shoes! EditDelete
jas1987 (708.6 days ago) I put shoes on my son since he was born, he didn`t really like them... He only started walking two weeks ago (16 months) and i put shoes on him when we go out but there are types of shoes he likes and doesn`t like... like he doesn`t like tight fitted lace up shoes... We bought a pair of those converse high top chuck taylors for him and he hates them, i hate them they are such a pain to put on him and he screams and cries... they fit perfectly but just a hassle... We prefer light weight velcro shoes... If they are still learning to walk or early walkers they need the soft sole... EditDelete
KR (708.7 days ago) Both my children did this. Is the weight of the shoe and the different feeling. They get use to it over time. I never had crib shoes (unless it was a pair of robeez) my kids always had walking shoes. My daughter is now walking full time (recently started) so i have her in a soft puma. Its common, just keep them on dont make any adjustments and he will get use to it quick. Even try them in the house so he gets use to using them more! EditDelete
t555rm (708.7 days ago) It happened with my son. We waited a whole month from when he started walking before we got him shoes coz we wanted him to really master it, good balance etc. Even then when he first put his shoes on he wouldn`t move. It was like he had iron shoes or something. It`s a new experience and it must have felt weird on his little feet LOL. I`d let him try them every day and he started walking in them but it was still uncomfy. I realized that the soles were too thick and it must have been heavy for him. So I went and got very lightweight shoes, circo brand from Target, that had thin soles, perfect for beginners I think. It worked! EditDelete
rosye13 (708.8 days ago) Very common! It feels very funny to little ones the first few times they have shoes on. In fact, Gracie was not near as good a walker in her shoes. From about 9 - 11 months she could walk fine without shoes, but if you put them on her, she really struggled. I would say that your best best is to try to put them on him more often ( I know, doesn`t sound like fun, lol) but eventually he will get used to them :) EditDelete
MummyLJ (708.8 days ago) Also, DH is upstairs playing with him, with the shoes, to try and get him used to them, and he`s not afraid of them or anything... but he won`t let us put them on him! So strange! EditDelete
