It`s also possible a new nail underneath is growing. Recently I hurt my big toe, and was wondering why the bad looking nail was not growing out as my nail grew. It turned out the nail completely fell off and under that nail a new one had started to grow out. It was very strange.

I did that too and like the others it took months to grow out and fall off. But it will so don`t worry! You`ll prob see it growing out soon!

My mom had that but she somehow got a fungal infection from it or something, but she didn`t know what it was, so she went for about 15 years like that. It was way gross and her nail grew upward (got really really thick). If you see anything like that you might want to get it checked out asap. (The nail itself turned yellowish in the area that wasn`t black.) Ew, gross, I know. Hope it heals soon for you. :)

My son dropped something on his big toe and it took months for the nail to finally grow out- It almost seemed as if it was a good 4 months before the nail even looked like it had moved and pushed the bruise up- once it started to grow/move, it took another 2 months- so it was a good 6 months before his nail finally grew out

i`ve done that before and mine ended up falling off. idk if that`ll happen to you or not. it was gross. :D

It took about 5 months for mine to grow out. I didn`t lose my whole nail but I dropped an unopened soda can and it landed right at the cuticle on my big toe. The black area took forever to grow out, also because the nail was so damaged the nail was thin and cracked looking as it grew out. Very gross and so happy my toe finally looks normal again!

yeah I took my aesthetics course and we learnt all that fun stuff about trauma to the nails/fingers/toes... when the nail is black, it means trauma was done and the nail is dead... my fiance just cut his finger (nerve damage and all) his nail turned black (at the tip) and it fell off after about a week or so... but it was the tip so it wasn`t stuck to anything (like your nail bed).

and it`s not gonna go away (like a bruise normaly would) cuz it`s trauma that is actually on the nail.

It`s gonna take a while... odds are the black part will eventualy fall off cuz that part of the nail is dead.
