Baby-poll poll Breastpumps. The hopital used to rent really nice ones, but they have stopped. I cannot bring myself to spend over $300 on a pump, but I also don`t want to end up with a cheap pump that doesn`t work. I`d like to get Medela, since those seem to be the best. What do you think?

Get the $300+ Medela electric pump. Even if you just use it for a couple months, it is worth the money.
Get a cheaper Medela pump, maybe a single pump (only $150). It won't be as efficient, but works.
Get a cheap single manual pump. They are only $40.
Leave a comment or suggestion! The more the better! Thanks!!

Lansinoh Double electric breast pump is a REMAKE of the Medela just cheaper. I bought it off ebay for 40 (normally 160) and loved it. Its doesnt let anything back up into the tubing just like madela and I used it 6 times a day for months. I highly highly reccomend it!

If you are going to be pumping alot, I recommend a Medela. I used a medela for a year and I exclusively pumped. It was around $200 for a double one and I used it 6-8 times a day and never had any problems. I also used it at work when I had limited time, so having a double pump is good for that.

I bought a 40$ one when i was breadst feeding, and it worked fine... i have never used a really expensive one and can`t understand why people pay so much for them. I guess I wasn`t constantly pumping, i only used it so i wouldn`t have to breastfeed in public. and so i could occasionaly get a baby sitter... but it did work good, only took me 20 minutes to pump a bottle full usually.

Whatever kind you decide to go with, just make sure it doesn`t beep at you with each pump like mine does. It`ll drive you insane!

I am so thankful for all the help you ladies have provided!! I do not work, but I have a daughter who will be 3 when the baby is born and I go to school online full time. I`d like to pump daily so I can build up a lot of storage in the freezer. I`m sure the baby will mostly be on the breast for feedings, especially during the night, but realistically I know that with school and chasing around a toddler that I am going to need to let my husband help when he can... and Anna, the big sister, really wants to be able to help give the baby bottles.

i was told by several lactation specialists hand pumps are not effeciant for consistant pumping...my dr wrote me a script for a medela freestyle pump and the insurance covered it 100% and i loved it! After attempting to bf my son almost 7 years ago and strictly pumping with my daughter it was so much easier and i had a better piece of mind! LOVED IT!

my son would not latch on after 3 days so i had to express and feed him by bottle. i used the Medela Swing electric breast pump and it was very good

Please go with the Medela Freestyle...I love mine! If you`re a full time working mom this is the BEST and worth the money! If you work part time, the other Medela pumps are just as good. But if you only need to pumpa lil bit, a manul works too. Congrats!

I got mine medela off of craigslist too for $50 and just bought replacement parts!

A couple years ago, a friend rented one from the pharmacy. maybe they still do that?

I had a madela for all three babies. I loved it, but I also had to pump twice a day at work. Manual pumps were fine for every once in a while, but man...my hands would get tired. I could pump about 12 oz in 8-10 minutes with my electronic pump. So, I guess it depends on how often you will pump. I had a madela hand pump and it worked nicely...just a lot more work.

I bought the playtex double embrace from walmart for $140. I like the fact that it`s a closed system so no breast milk ends up in the motor or tubing. The medela has good reviews, but it`s an open system which I personally wouldn`t feel comfortable with buying used since breast milk can carry Aids and other diseases. If I was to get a medela, I`d buy it new but I had a hard time with the cost. The playtex has a year warranty and I only plan to use it for a year, so it should work for me. I`ll be returning to work PT.

try finding one second hand

i have the medela pump in style. it`s awesome. fast and efficient. i don`t know how you feel about buying that type of thing off craigslist, but i found mine there for $60. i don`t use it too often, but it`s been a lifesaver when i`ve needed it. if i had to buy one new i think i`d have gotten the medela swing breastpump for $150. i would never buy a manual pump, too much work. even though i`d only pump every once in a while. and my reasoning is that when i usually do need to pump, i`m in a hurry and starting to get stressed out, the last thing i need to add to that is pumping for 20 minutes when i don`t have that time to spend on it. i`d definitely stick to medela.

craiglist - then order replacement tubing. If you don`t have a large craigslist in your area - check other ones and ask ppl to ship it for you. Then just pay the extra for shipping. :)

I`m going to try breastfeeding (this is our first baby) and we found a Playtex pump for $80 at Babies R Us...not sure how well it works but it`s worth a try :) Good luck!

  1. I`ve re-thought the moderating of the member-postings. How does this sound? Let`s change it to usage, rather than length of time as a member. Say your first 10 or 20 polls, questions and pictures need to be approved by a Mod or something like that. Someone posting the racist polls and adding the kiddie porn is unlikely to participate as a normal member. Once you are verified as a regular member you`re no longer monitored.
  2. How long did it take you to get pregnant after you got your IUD (Mirena) out?
  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!
  4. My daughter is almost 5 months and 3 weeks ago my hair started falling out. I know it`s normal but how long did it last for you?
  5. With all the issues going on with the site maybe we need an updated list on Mods. Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)
  6. Anyone wanna try http://parentspuzzlepieces.spruz.com/ a free community site I just made? Let me know if you want the password and would want to help add things to it!!
  7. I think with all the posting issues IAP needs to appoint someone to verify all pictures, polls, questions, etc that are posted by new members. Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)
  8. MODS ~ please help me in monitoring the photo pages and other pages. Horrific porn was posted in photos sections and they need to be deleted as soon as they are seen. I reported it to Laura also. TX!!
  9. my 4 yr old has 3 planter warts on his foot,.. any home remedies gals or is this a dr visit?
  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
