happydog (704.9 days ago) I used a front carrier for all my babies and really like it. I tried a sling a few times with baby # 4, but prefer the carrier. Either way, I love being able to carry the little one around close to me and still have hands free if need be!
shesxchaotic (705 days ago) I used a pouch sling with Jackson. Really cheap from Target! And we also have a Sleepy Wrap and I just bought a mei tai for summer!
shesxchaotic (705.1 days ago) As far as I know, any bag type sling like the Infantino SlingRider (shown in pic) is unsafe. It isn`t just that the baby is so surrounded or turned into mom`s belly, it`s that they cause the baby to be in a `C` shape which puts the baby`s chin into their chest causing asphyxiation. The rule of thumb is that a baby, even a newborn, should be in a semi-upright to upright position with there being enough space for you to place 2 fingers between the chin and chest. Also, baby should be high enough that you can kiss their head.
jekajoy (705.1 days ago) I have the sling in the picture and I love it and baby loves it. Not happy to hear it`s unsafe :( Mine is mesh on the sides so I don't know if it's the exact same one but I could always see my baby.
shesxchaotic (705.2 days ago) GGMarie- I`m with you! I had heard a while ago about the safety issues with the bag slings but just looking at them, they look uncomfortable and half the time the baby can`t even be seen! Very scary!
sooexcitedtobemommy (705.2 days ago) You know whats scary is someone just gave me that same exact sling they`re holding up!
T3POandR2D2 (705.2 days ago) I know :( The local news ran a story this morning on it and they only showed ONE picture of a bag sling, the rest were pouches and ring slings! Unfortunately, since the announcement wasn`t specific, there will be a lot of bad info going around. This is a great opportunity to educate!
shesxchaotic (705.3 days ago) Yes, thank you T3PO! Alot of people that know I carry my son in a sling have told me it`s unsafe so I`ve had to clarify that any type of babywearing has it`s safety factors but that this is specifically directed towards the duffel bag looking slings. Unfortunately the articles written aren`t as specific as they need to be simply stating that slings are dangerous.
T3POandR2D2 (705.3 days ago) This can help clear up the question of `what is a bag sling` - http://www.nurturebabynaturally.com/2010/03/what-is-bag-sling.html
babydecember (705.3 days ago) Oh wow, another reason I`m glad I bought a Moby!
T3POandR2D2 (705.3 days ago) Also, please be aware that this is specifically for BAG SLINGS. While any baby carrier can be unsafe if worn incorrectly, these bag slings are unsafe because they go against every guideline of babywearing. Bag slings are not safe, no matter how they are worn. Do not confuse this announcement for a warning against ALL slings.
