Spend the same money on two toys instead of one. That way you don`t spend too much and you have a gift for both parties. If you don`t like that, I would bring a gift only to the first birthday.

I don`t know why she`s having 2 parties, I`m not family, in fact I`ve only known her just over a year... I`m assuming she`ll have a family only one on his actual birthday which is neither of these two dates... Now I`ve thought about it, I might skip this latest party - it`s kind of short notice and I have so many parties at the moment, one every week over a 2 month period and I have work and study commitments as well so I might politely decline...

Interesting. I would bring something for his birthday party, and maybe just do a 10$ toys r us gift card with a card for the second thing.

Can you buy him a good gift for his proper party, and a cheapie for his other party? Like, sidewalk chalk or something? That`s what we do with my neice, because she has a family party and a friends party
