Rubes (702.8 days ago) I was reading that in France they give you a `due month` as opposed to `due date`, because you are technically due anywhere between 37-weeks and 42-weeks (40-weeks being the `medium`). Anyways, 40-weeks gives people a focus, and when that comes to pass (as statistically you are more likely to give birth within 10-days overdue), women get impatient, try old wives` tales and agree to sweeps/inductions/C-sections, which could all cause more harm then good... My own personal opinion. :D
bexnz (702.9 days ago) i think inductions are fine, where needed. its just all these ladies wanting castor oil, and all these other ways to try,it just makes me so mad! ive had 2 kids, both of which i never even thought about when they would come, i just relaxed and went with it, (prob because the thought of birth terrifyed me lol) and... the both arrived early. its almost like the more you complain, and `try` the longer your little one will make you wait!!! its just so dangerous, specially kniting needles!! but people so wound up about it, would try if desprite enough!!!
jaychay (702.9 days ago) Explo - i know how you felt. im 33 weeks at the moment and im in agony just walking 5min and im very sore. just hope i dont go very overdue. i have GBS and last time my son wa 3 days early so im hoping im not overdue this time.
jaychay (702.9 days ago) ♫♪♪♫♫♪♫ - i totally agree
soon2be3 (702.9 days ago) One of my three children came on her own. My other two were inductions. For me, it is about healthy mommy and healthy baby. I took the advice of my doctor for my own personal situation. People may judge or be bothered, but my objective wasn`t to please the masses, rather to have a healthy baby. I was so scared to go too far over due because my niece was born 14 days past due and was definately over-cooked. She was in distress, swallowed meconium, her skin was a very bright red (due to low fluids). She spent her first day of life in the NICU because she was born with a very low apgar score. This is not to scare you, but everyone`s situation is different.
3rdTry (703 days ago) I have also been told that I will have great difficultly carrying to full term and will never make it to full but might be far enough along to have a healthy baby, I get mad when people complain because my body won`t let me carry to full term.
3rdTry (703 days ago) It really bothers me, probably because I had my baby very early and we lost him.
Rubes (703 days ago) I was due over Christmas, and I remember one woman being offered an induction at 39-weeks, so the doctor didn`t have to deliver over Christmas?? I mean, correct me if I`m wrong, but if the woman was nowhere near ready to go into labour, surely the induction would end up in a C-section, which is MAJOR abdominal surgery?? Not only that, didn`t the doctor realise that the odds of her delivering on or around her due date were next to nothing?? Majority of women go 10-days over, anyways... Situations like that ANNOY me.
yorkc39 (703 days ago) It does bother me, I remember being pregnant and all the moms said how they couldnt wait being induced! The baby will come when he/she is ready. I did not want to be induced, but my dr recommended it bc the baby had grown the amount of 1 week in my last 4 weeks, and he was worried the placenta or whatever could start breaking down, so it may be better for the baby to come out than stay in, so I opted for his recommendation. But I would not have gone that way otherwise.
LKLmama (703 days ago) I am 38 weeks and I avoid looking at the 38 week page because everyone is complaining and trying to induce themselves... I have NO interest in that. Honestly I am hoping my baby stays in a little longer!
mamag07 (703 days ago) I was induced with my first one and I know many people who are. I think that it is a personal decision that you and your dr make. If you have a good dr. then there shouldn`t be any reason not to trust them. I was however already having contractions that were 5 minutes apart when I did go in so my dr. knew my body was ready. She was healthy and just fine and is now 2. I don`t know if I would do it again just because I want to go natural but at the time it was a good choice for my family.
military~mommy (703.1 days ago) I think the knitting needle story is what freaks me out the most!
T3POandR2D2 (703.1 days ago) It bothers me. I also think it`s funny when women think red raspberry leaf tea or EPO will induce labor... It shows that they don`t even bother researching and will do anything... Which, is kind of scary!
netters (703.1 days ago) It doesn`t bother me since none of those methods really work. With my daughter, I was put on bedrest from 32-34 weeks due to preterm labor. From 34-36 weeks I stayed off my feet as much as possible. But once I hit 37 weeks I just carried on like normal...not necessarily doing anything to bring on labor just not taking extra precautions to avoid it. I am not sure if that is `bad` or not. My daughter came at 37.5 weeks weighing 7lbs 2 ounces... perfect! =)
canadababy (703.2 days ago) It would bother me if I thought any of the old wives tales worked, but since none of them do work it just makes think how silly some people can be.
lovemyfamily (703.2 days ago) With DD1 I did try bouncing on a birthing ball, raspberry leaf tea etc after 37 weeks. She didn`t come until 40 weeks 2days. Do I regret it? OF COURSE!! Especially now where I have NO control over when my baby comes. She will be severely premature and I feel like some mommies take their womb time forgranted. It is hard, and stressful and everything else, but I promise you they need that extra time in there!! Let them grow and love them because you will miss your baby bump and you don`t want to see them suffer!! :(
military~mommy (703.2 days ago) Hmm, I really hate how so many women say `37 weeks is full term so I can try and induce labor`. Umm, in the majority of countries they won`t even induce until you are 1-2 weeks past your ESTIMATED due date, so just because 37 weeks means your baby COULD be fine arriving then does not mean they SHOULD arrive at 37 weeks. Pregnancy is alloted 42 weeks, forcing your baby out before they are ready is insane, and yes, read my profile, I tried to self induce with my daughter, thank goodness it did not work and she was born at 41 weeks and 3 days weighing in at 6lbs 13oz. Can you imagine how tiny she would have been if I had had her at 37 weeks? She would have been 4 lbs(ish) and had a stay in the NICU.
Rubes (703.2 days ago) I had awful SPD. It was so bad, I barely got any sleep the last month or two of my pregnancy. I could barely walk ten-minutes up the road, before crying `cause of the pain. I went 8-days over before `real` contractions began, and the pain got worse each day overdue`````. Now, a few days over, I did reach the point of begging her to come out. Lol. But I`d not have done anything to make her come out. Babies come when they`re good and ready. :D Saying that, I booked an induction for 13-days overdue (but that`s `cause the risks increase significently after 2-weeks overdue).
But I get more annoyed when women before 39-weeks get impaitent and start booking C-sections/inductions for much of the reasons already stated.
Actually, it's against medical protocol to "evict" babies unless there is a medical reasons, but if your paying/have Health Insurance, I guess anything goes??
charliebaby (703.2 days ago) What bothers me is women on this site who encourage reckless, irresponsible induction - when I was in week 39 in the pregnancy pages on this site just over a year ago some idiot said that they saw a documentary on women who puncture their own waters by using a knitting needle and said it was reasonably safe. Firstly 39 weeks is not OVERDUE, secondly it`s probably the most irresponsible piece of advice I`ve ever heard, and thirdly, whilst most people would read something like that and think `you`re just an idiot` there are women who are suffering all sorts of conditions through pregnancy and can become quite irrational and desperate who might see something like that and think `well if so and so said it was safe, I might try it`.
rice-and-squeaks-mama (703.3 days ago) Hmm, this is a funny one for me - anytime before 37 weeks really bothers me, but after 37 weeks, baby is full term. I think that its smart to try natural induction methods (sex, clary sage etc) as I had to be medically induced an firmly believe it is bad for both mum and baby. I will be taking raspberry leaf tea in my last trimester this time (NOT to get baby to come early, but because it tones the uterus ready for labour) I dont agree with taking medicines Icastor oil) etc to try to get labour started...
lovelee (703.3 days ago) Yup! And their were alot from and around my week because we were due around thanksgiving and christmas. I didn`t care as much when they were 38+ weeks but anytime before that i wanted to slap them through my computer...lol.
numberj (703.3 days ago) That doesnt bother me, it`s famous people who have elective caesareans on a specific date bcs it `fits` into there schedule bother me. The average mom who try`s `old wives tale` methods to get there baby to come early just seem excited, and tired to me..
jaychay (703.3 days ago) it does also bother me. i still have 7 weeks to go and so far this has been a painful pregnancy i have siatica and spd. but id never dream in trying to force my baby to come out. she will come when she is ready. x
