I wasn`t close to either of my parents as a teenager. As a child, I was always at my mom`s side, never my dad`s. My mom and I didn`t become close again until I was in my early 20`s.

Until I hit my 20s it was my father and me. And then I left home to attend college in a different city and that`s when mom and I became really close. There was little that I didn`t share with her and to this day she`s my best friend. In fact my respect and love for her grew 10 fold after I became a mother myself :)

Again, I hear things like `A daughter is a daughter for life, a son is a son until he meets a wife` which I think is a bloody stupid saying, you don't suddenly not become a daughter or son, but I hear a lot of women in particular say "Oh I bet you wish you had a girl, when you're my age you'll never see your son" and I feel like having a go at them. I know I am VERY close with my mum, and although my mum and brother are close, it`s not the same kind of relationship.
