melliewald (697 days ago) This totally brought back memories of my son doing this! I had forgotten how painful and irritating that was - I had quite a few times where I`d screech out loud out of pain/surprise. So, my advice: first of all, congratulations on making it 6 months nursing! This is a great achievement! My initial goal was 6 months, but things went very well and we made it to a year w/pumping and nursing (no formula), then I nursed part-time for another 6 months, so 18 months total. I wouldn`t let the biting ruin this for you - everyone here has given good advice. I used to just take it away and after awhile he stopped biting. Whether you continue nursing or not, good job w/what you`ve done already :)
jeff (698.1 days ago) If he`s biting at the beginning his teeth hurt... if at the end he`s bored/done. I used to kinda fish hook my son to get him off if he did this (uncomfortable for him and would save me further pain)... and then either try again or take a break for a few mins. He only did this for a couple weeks while he was teething. good luck
ladykilla421 (698.2 days ago) I usually take my breast out of her mouth and gently pinch her cheeks so she makes a fish pout face....it doesnt hurt her but she gets hella insulted!! Ive only had to do it 3-4 times now she knows.....that and Ive heard that babies tend to bite when they are finished nursing so maybe try to keep an eye on when he is not eating much and that you think he is finishing up...
t555rm (698.3 days ago) Oh gosh my son used to do that when he first started teething. He almost bit my nipple in half LOL. I was determined to not quit nursing so what I did was watch out for signs that told me he was almost finished. Before he had a chance to pull away I`d put my index finger between the nipple and his mouth and unlatch. It took a couple of times before I was quick enough to do it before he pulled away but it worked. After he cut his top teeth the biting stopped. The pain was excrutiating. My hubby thought it was funny and I told him to imagine how it would be to have his penis bit into half and he stopped laughing LOL.
luvin colton (698.4 days ago) i just saw this on the doctors tv show and dr sears said whenever he bites down to press is face into your breast rather then instinctively pulling away. when you push in it will make him want to let go since its uncomfortable and makes breathing harder. good luck, ouch!
T3POandR2D2 (698.4 days ago) A baby can`t bite while actively nursing. You can try and look for signs that he is done or getting bored and pull him off prior to the bite. When he does bite, unlatch him and give him a firm, but not scary, `No biting.` and put him down.
maimai (698.4 days ago) My dd used to do that. As soon as she bit me I took her straight off of the breast. I left it a bit before giving it to her again. Every time she bit she was taken off. She soon learnt that as soon as she bit me it interupted her feeding! And she soon stopped doing it! Fed her until she was 17 months without any more biting problems! Hope that helps
