California-mom: you and your husband take showers every day because you are adults; you sweat, you secrete, you will probably stink if you DON`T shower. However, as you know, children and babies do not sweat. They do not stink of BO. They do not secrete as many bodily fluids as adults do. Therefore they do not need as much washing as adults do.

newbb (697.4 days ago)
newborn everyday toddler everyday preschool/school age depending on how dirty they are but every other day max!

california-mom (697.4 days ago)
Gross. I take a shower every day, my husband takes a shower every day so my kids all take showers/baths every day.

A quote from Dr. Sears on the topic:`Over the years we have bathed a lot of babies. There is no right way or wrong way to bathe a baby, just one that works for you with a minimum of hassles. We have learned to regard bath time as more of a parenting ritual than a cleaning regimen.` http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-baby/PR00041 http://www.askdrsears.com/html/11/T110230.asp http://www.planningfamily.com/toddler/bathing-and-grooming/bathing-your-toddler/ http://www.ksdk.com/news/watercooler/story.aspx?storyid=197121&catid=71

Oh goodness - the great thing about these kinds of sites is women having a forum to support each other, the bad thing is women having a forum to judge each other. Unfortunately, it seems like parenting habits give some women this area in which to feel superior to others and most often it seems to be women who have insecurities or a need to have all the answers. Bathing baby every day could be a great ritual and bonding experience for some moms while other moms may use that extra time playing with baby other ways, cuddling or reading books together. However, if daily bathtime moms are purely doing this because of fear of germs, and it causes them anxiety not to bathe daily, they might be ill-informed. The bathtub can be a pretty germy place in and of itself. The hands are the most important thing to keep clean, and if you stay on top of the diaper area, face and crevices in the neck, you`re doing well. Bathing 7x/week doesn't mean you're 7x the better mama ; ) Jeniellezeidan, I`m surprised that you`d really be surprised that others would feel judged by your comments after starting your post with: `wow, sorry to judge` & `sorry, don`t mean to sound like a b****`. As a former teacher, I`ve found teachers often fall into this kind of judgmentalism more easily. And, after looking at your page and blogs, it seems like you might be prone to getting into these kinds of head-on battles w/other women who you think are jealous of you. Maybe they`re not jealous, maybe they`re just defending themselves. I don`t think others should bother getting too worked up by your comments...you may be one who thrives on this kind of thing. Since you`re offering advice to others, my advice to you would be to take a look at why you have this pattern of drama w/other women. Why bother trying to work up other women who are in a beautiful yet stressful time of their lives already?

T3POandR2D2 (697.6 days ago)
I bathe my 16 month old every other day, unless he gets really messy. If I bathe him every day he gets very bad excema. He is also allergic to scented anything and most lotions so we don`t use anything like that.

ulala86 (697.7 days ago)
this was only a question to see if i was going crazy...because i thought bathing a child every two weeks was insane. now what u choose to do w ur child is ur personal business. some do it everyday, some evey couple and some every week...i just thought every two weeks was unsenitary. thats all ladies...no need to fight over bathing. i personally bath my son everyday and his skin is perfectly smooth. he loves it so why not do it if there is no bad affect on him....all kids r diffrent...some could handle it some cant.

Faith-star-x (697.8 days ago)
Wow well that made interesting reading! i have 4 kids my eldest is 10 and will shower everyday, my daughter is 9 and baths 3 times a week, my 3rd is 6 and showers/baths 3-4 times a week and youngest DD is 17months she gets a bath every other day but washed down several times a day, i believe different doctors/healthcare professionals will tell you differently my own doctor has always advised not to bathe everyday from birth as it is not good for their skin and i believe this to be true, 2 of my kids have eczema and too much bathing makes it worse no matter what creams/lotions are used, so its each to their own and as long as the kids are getting a clean up everyday and a good scrub in the bath at least 1-2 times per week, then what harm is being done? tho 2weeks is wrong!

joesgirl321 (697.8 days ago)
Some of you are hilarous...Our pediatrician has also told us to only bathe our daughter every three days at the most. She is 14 months old. Do you guys really think that a child MUST be bathed every night?? I don`t know any parents who do that. It`s unnecessary. And, seriously, a dermatologist told you children needed to be bathed every night? Well, I guess that is why he isn`t a pediatrician....

lovemyfamily (697.9 days ago)
No I choose not to bask my daughter in chemicals to correct her dry skin. She is bathing 3 times a week using all natural products. She has never needed lotion, never had a diaper rash, nothing! She gets wiped down head to toe 3 times daily at least, I think that`s enough!

My5Babies:) (697.9 days ago)
I do want to add, when I only had one child, I did bathe her every day.....i wonder what the correlation is between bathing your child every day when having only one is and bathing your children less than that when there is more than one. Routine is great....routines change drastically as you have more children. My oldest, who is almost 10 has a far different routine at night than my youngest.

My5Babies:) (697.9 days ago)
I have 4 daughters...my oldest showers every other day, my second one showers twice a week, due to having an IV placed in her arm and an ostomy bag, but gets washed every day, my 3 year old bathes every other day, but is washed up with a washclothe several times a day and the same for my 20 month old...everyother day, except when obviously she is needing a full bath, she is washed every day, several times a day with a washclothe. I never bathed them every day as newborns....there was no need to. They weren`t dirty, twice a week, they would get baths.

You don`t have to know me. Although you did not comment DIRECTLY to me I was in the `GENERALIZED` comment about children with dry skin. Your comment asked a question in which I answered! So I guess I did read it properly. YES this is a site about giving advice WHEN IT IS ASKED FOR! I am NOT your friend so please do not address me as such :-) Oh and BTW, I don`t need nor do I want your smart mouth advice about relaxation...I am good thank you!

Str8 As (697.9 days ago)
jeniellezeidan like I said in my comment, my baby has extremely bad skin and I was advised by HER dr to bathe her once a week, however I wipe her down daily. Her skin peels and it looks nasty if she is bathed everyday. Vaseline makes her skin break out in little bumps and lotion/creams makes her red! The only thing that works is shea butter or margrine (dr told me to use it). Usually I don`t care if some one criticize my parenting, however, YES you struck a nerve with me. My other THREE does get a bath daily and we may not go outside everyday!!!!

charliesmummy18 (698 days ago)
when my son was born i bathed him every other day, he will be 2 at the end of March and its now everyday. As silly as this sounds but i love the smell when he gets up in the morning after he has had a bath the night before! lol x

amber325 (698 days ago)
two weeks is NUTS! LOL we do 2-3 baths a week unless she gets REALLY dirty. So roughly every other day.

debsandgrace (698 days ago)
When DD was a newborn we bathed her every other day, working up to every night as part of her bedtime routine. Once she hit 13/14mths she hated the bath suddenly it became a battle ground. The sheer fear in her eyes was terrible, as she does sign lanuage she also signed no more as soon as she was put in the bath whilst screaming. I couldn`t bare putting her through a bath every night so we dropped it to once per week. We washed her face, neck, ears, hands, bottom and feet daily with a wash cloth still with tears. Slowly she has started to enjoy the bath again and we are now up to three times a week with daily wash downs.

ulala86 (698 days ago)
I`ve also bathed my son everyday since birth and his skin isn`t dry at all! I`m not judging anyone, I just think that once every two weeks is insane.

jeniellezeidan -- bathing babies every day from newborn is not only not necessary, it can seriously dry out their skin of the oils they need to protect their delicate skin. Once a week is PLENTY from that early. PS Moisturiser is full of chemicals and skin ABSORBS them therefore by washing a newborn every day, you are washing away the natural protective oils, and replacing them with chemicals, which are then absorbed into your baby's skin. Washing once a week is plenty. We have never needed lotions or moisturisers for our kids because we don't over-bathe them. They get washed after meals -- hands face plenty of times a day. then baths when needed.

Lou-Li-Ro (698.1 days ago)
Once or twice a week for our almost-two-year-olds. I can`t face bathing them more often i am so tired in the evenings, but also I feel they don`t need bathing more than that. Wash face and hands a lot of course. But full baths once a week or twice

Rubes (698.2 days ago)
I was told to bathe three times a week as to not dry out the skin. They`re the same as adults (too many baths/showers a week actually do more harm then good to our bodies, esential oils, etc). I aim to top-and-tail every day, however. Bath no more then three times a week.

maimai (698.2 days ago)
DD has one everyday as part of her bedtime routine as she loves playing in the bath. I don`t wash her hair everyday though (unless it is needed) as otherwise her scalp gets dry. When I was little I know I didn`t have a bath every day because of really bad eczema and it would just make it really dry and sore (It was either a bath and then later having to be smothered in steroid cream because of the soreness or a strip wash and being ok - obviously my parents wanted to avoid the steroid cream where possible!). I think so long as they get a wash down it doesn`t matter if it is a full bath or a strip wash. I understand what people are saying about needing baths to wash them off, especially when they are in nappies, but you can still wash them properly without soaking them in a bath full of water if it dries out skin. If it is just because someone is being lazy and can`t be bothered to wash/bath them, then yes, I think that is wrong.

charliebaby (698.3 days ago)
Once per day unless I`m out (the other night we were out until 9pm and he was asleep when we got home so I didn`t bath him) but if not, then I give him a bath the following morning. He gets so grubby now with food, crawling, walking etc. I wipe him down numerous times during the day also. I can't believe that people wait a week between washes? Seriously? What about things like cleaning behind the ears, under the fingernails, between toes... These are areas that need to be kept clean and can't really be done effectively unless being washed every day, it's easier to just plonk him in the bath and do it all at the same time, and my son loves playing in the bath, that is the only thing guaranteed to snap him out of a stinker of a mood in no time!

jas1987 (698.3 days ago)
From birth every night, when he`s really dirty twice a day depending if he can last until the night, He`s 16 months and into everything... I could not imagine once or twice a week, babies also like to feel clean even when they are being wiped down...

KFinTX (698.3 days ago)
We `wipe` DS down multiple times/day but we give him an actual bath once a week. He has extremely dry skin (yes, even with lotion) and Dr advised us to bathe less often. He`s 5 months old at the moment.

jeff (698.3 days ago)
my son gets to play in a tub of water every night. we soap him up about twice a week. when he was younger he got just the twice a week. his bum gets sprayed down with warm water after almost every poop.

domsmom2009 (698.3 days ago)
When he was first born, it was every 3 days. His skin was too dry and he didn`t do anything so what was the point lol now he`s 8 months old and he gets a bath every night as a part of his bedtime routine :) I`m curious as to what you encountered as well lol

shesxchaotic (698.4 days ago)
Yes, what did you encounter? We bathe every other day. Every day leaves his skin too dry but I find that every other is just right. I'm editing my answer based on others responses. My son has extremely sensitive skin and has adverse reactions to most moisturizers even the hypoallergenic types. And at 6 months old he isn't getting into much. If he needs a bath everyday then that's what we do. :)

Str8 As (698.4 days ago)
I can only bathe my little LO once a week because her skin is too dry per drs orders. She gets wiped down daily though. The other girls is everyday.

MunchieAndScrunchie (698.4 days ago)
We try for twice a week but sometimes it`s been a week before we know it!! What did you encounter??

  3. Twilight valentines for 7 year olds... appropriate or not? DD received a valentine with a very... sultry smoldery Edward on the front and I was just kind of surprised that anyone would buy those for 7 year olds? I know I`m on the conservative side in general on those kinds of things, but this really surprised me!

Obviously Laura is the one to go to but if there is a concern and it needs immediate attention and a Mod is online it may be good to know who is who so you can reach out to them. Mods, can you please post here so we know who you are. (Esp since some profiles names had to be changed because of recent log on issues)

Sure, it`ll probably make things slower, but something needs to be done! Many websites have this installed and IAP needs it as well. Members that have been on the site for a certain time can be exempt, but if you are a new member, posts should be monitored. I`m going to copy this suggestoin to Laura and if you agree you should too!! :)

  10. ok ladies, sry its long but i really need some advice, a year ago my 5 yr old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, over the last year my mom has had a hard time dealing with his diagnosis because there is no cure and all she can do is give him 5 insulin shots a day to keep him alive, she looks at it like march 13th 2011 was the death of her healthy little boy and she woke up with this sick child, well i always tell her she needs to go to counseling to learn how to cope with this but lately i`m more worried about my baby brother, he came home the other day from kindergarten and had a picture of a red headed boy with a knife, 3 people under the ground dead and another one on top of the ground covered in blood, he recently grabbed one of my 15 yr old brother`s pocket knives out and started swinging it at my older brother because they were fighting, and then he told my mother he wanted to be a serial killer when he grows up! he has said before that he wishes he would die, that he didn`t want to wake up the next morning,.....
